Gaz,
I work for Royal Mail, remember the post has to go to Northampton now the big new sorting office and then on to it's destination.
Recorded Delivery you sent it yes?? if so you should have a tracking number to follow it up bud.
As said, weather's shocking and Xmas time is always a mare to get parcels there on time...

Daz you spastic!! I saw your van today bud, slumming it in the 'monkey islands' eh!!
As for this recorded item, it's not traceable like special deliverys are, it travels with ordinary mail and only gets a signature on delivery... That said if you wanna PM me the 13 digit number I can check on the internal system to see if it says anything different, but I seriously doubt it!
We were told it's a Ł600 bonus, but we ain't getting it 'til the new year!!!

The amount of stuff I've had lost by the royal mail is unbeleiveable. Also get opened parcels and letters that look like it might have something interesting inside.
If it's anything now of any personal or monetary value, I always pay the bit extra for special delivery.

Ive had that happen a few times when it says 'has been accpeted at post office'. The problem with recorded is that its only 'tracked', from the post office to the final destination, so if it doesnt come up as signed for, or taken to local sorting office for collection, then chances are in will be 'lost in post'.
Although we all know what 'lost in post' actually means in reality. I always wonder where all these 'lost in post' items end up. They cant just magically dissappear! yes there might be the odd genuine one thats misplaced or delivered to the wrong place, or the labels fell off and is untraceable etc, but its quite obvious that most will be 'stolen' by untrustworthy staff. No way of proving it though of course.
Out of interest, a question to the royal mail staff, do you have some sort of system in place that records the number of 'lost' letters/parcels that go missing in a postmans/postwomans area? That way, if a pattern emerges or numbers look too high in one area compared to others, then its obvious theres a problem somewhere with 'theft' maybe?

Internal police may be a good thing in the actual sorting offices, but i suspect that 99% of the 'thefts' take place out on the job, by the posties and the workers collecting from the post boxes etc. Easy pickings for them i suppose, which is why i wondered if 'lost mail' is recorded in some way so that the powers that be can see if theres a pattern or an area with a high 'loss' rate and can then investigate further. I suppose its something thats hard to enforce and we have to accept it really.

i find royal mail to be quite good, but i have had the odd 1 or 2 lost
1st class recorded is pointless, as you cannot track it at all, its only proff that its been signed for and delivered, but only when its been signed for and they have put it on there system
special delivery is the only way to go to gurantee it will get there and it covers upto Ł500 and is next day most of the time
though what annoys me with royal mail is they offer a recorded signed for for parcels going outside the uk, it costs Ł4.50 a parcel, but you can only track it until it leaves the uk, once its left the uk you cannot track it at all or have proff thats its beendelivered, so wtf are they offering a service they cannt provide

I do wonder where this mail actually gets physically lost permenantly.
surely in sorting machines theres only so many places letters can fall, and if a postie picks up a mail sack and it splits, surely he picks it all up again and if letters randomly fall on the floor, youd expect the cleaners to not put letters they sweep up in the bin but back in the system etc.
and with parcels they are even bigger

mainly wrong address or the address has fallen off ect,
but we now have an internal letter opening factillity called DWP which allows certain staff to have a look iside and see if there's an invoice/receipt to get it back on it's way,
most stuff goes to belfast to sorted and can take months to arrive back
and obviously there is theft
