Drive one. I own one after having an Impreza, and personally I hate it. Its unstable at low speeds, doesn't feel as sure footed, the engine sounds like a lawnmower.

However, it is very surefooted at higher speeds, I do quite like the aggressive looks of it.

Seriously, drive one and decide for yourself, don't listen to opinions IMHO

just sold My 5 a couple of months ago and I got to say it was a excellant car, in the 2 1/2 years I had it, it never broke down once and the first year it was used everyday.

things to look for is RUST, make sure you have a good look underneath and that it has been undersealed properly, check AYC light comes on when ignition is switched on and goes off after start up (alot of people remove the AYC light to hide this)

only other thing is clutch as Std items arent up to the job when tuned so it would be better if it had a twin plate clutch in

I can honestly say it was the best car I have owned and Miles better than my 3dr cossie I had

great advice; i hated the ones i had as they always felt unstable in normal driving. a lot of people like them though but i would sooner have an impreza.
definately check for rust underneath too!

7k at a push

My mate had a 5 recently that was VERY nice. Rebuilt engine, 9 turbo, proper 3" exhaust blah blah. extremely good nick. It was circa 7 and I guess was betetr than that one. Less miles too.

as said NEVER underestimate rust on a 5! They are not undersealed form new as they are all imported. One can have more rust than 10 sierras!!!!!

Why he wouldnt have it mapped to full capability is beyond me!

He also seems to wank over rare parts

I bought an Evo 5 about 3 months ago, it's awesome, wish i'd bought one years ago. Mines certainly NOT unstable at low speeds, and drives lovely. With that spec, i'd say it's well worth around 6k!

I would say 6k but do look under it for rust, If it has been in the UK a long time there will be lots of it if a new jap import there will be none.

Having owned a sti ra v5 and now a evo 6 gsr i think they are very alike, as for the evo not liking slow speed corners have a look on youtube with the p1 vs a evo.

One thing i will mention is mpg is on a self harm level on both the scooby and more so the evo

if not been looked after and abused they can easily cost as much as a cossie.

I ound my 380 bhp FQ330 8 to be ok at 21 mpg. It was better than a standard one. On second thoughts I think it was more than 21. I did 254 miles off a tank which I think is 11 gallons, 55 litres.

Think the 5 really set the standard for the rest but imo the 5 is still the best. Drove a fair few from standard upto 500hp and tbh i never thought they were unstable. Thought the chassis soaked up the power well even with nothing overly special on the suspension front.
Saying that i'm used to a nova turbo so its gotta be fairly lairy before i would says its unstable.

I'd deffo be asking why the swap for your car if its worth a few quid less.

When i was selling my Leon FR TDI i was offered a mrk1 focus RS which was very tempting and i love them for what they are but alarm bells was ringing.

i would get a propper hpi done before i did the deal but a quick check before i get too far into it would help

he has sent me another e mail

these are the only pics i have at the moment,i can take more if required, underside if good with no corrosion or rust, visually or either noticed on MOT and no rust anywhere coming through on arches etc,i jet wash underside every week, im not to keen to get rid of it,but im driving up to hemel hemsteed once a week snow boarding and would like to do it in something a bit easier really, but if no interest im not worried,im from southampton, cant remember if i said that im planning to change the diff bolts tomorow ,which is a common issue with E5 and E6 gsr models, with open diff's up front,rs models had a lsd as did a few gsr's and dont suffer.i have done all the work myself (senior marine engingeer) and have done all parts listed since i got it in april.only thing left now if to replace inner track rod arms (very common) and arm are only 50, oh and a little plastic piece on the o/s/r door (the sill plate thingy 5),just waiting for one to come up on mlr forum.

Looks awesome spec and condition wise for a car the seller values under Ł5k.

Evo 5s are great cars, and that one looks a tidy example

ive loved everyone ive been in and drove, although alot of serious scruff's as have been imported for a few years, and people only buy them to rag them. so buy with care ... or swap in this case

as said evo 5s are great car's,but you must check under for rust a clean looking car can be hanging on the floor/chassis legs ,that does look a nice 5 though, evos are easy to work on and for 5k you could break that car & get your money back all day long

To be honest the 6 is the one to have better block for modding.

Look better Imo.
Check for rust underneath behind doors, AYC light, Fuel filler neck pipe rot.

My 6 runs 400bhp and handles that power but drinks fuel, but once driven a Evo you forget about the spending.

Thats looks a nice 5 especially in black.

Check for rust. they're terrible for it!

As a few others have said though, as much as I like them, I'd choose an Impreza every time.
