Steve,
Didn't realise that it took a man of your experience to take an hour to crank one off... Must have been the picture of Dom on your wall that made it take so long... .

not wanting to(and hoping it does'nt)start a slagging match but i dont agree with the 3/4 mph prdediction... i would estimate it to be more like 10mph.... why not try it and see?

10mph would make it 2mph slower than your escort, so that is where that figure comes from i guess?

i know you are just kidding

its just my guestimate based on what bruces car did and my experience of nos on my yellow escort which porkie mentioned earlier in this thread but got the figures wrong for. it actually made a difference of, wait for it.................... 20mph over the quarter! 11.8@118 with no nos and with 50hp shot of nos 11.4@138 these runs were done back to back on the same day at avonpark raceway.

Martin, i can see where you are coming from there, but the difference is in rods case that he is using it for only the very end of the run due to traction issues in the lower gears.

That 20mph increase of yours from such a small amount of gas is a monstrous increase, shows how much more than 50bhp it must have been creating due to the intercooling effect of the gas, was it a hot day that you did those times on?

Martin,
I was there that day as well . Another gearbox "bought the farm" .

1st gear - wheelspin, 2nd gear - wheelspin / then grip, rattle, rattle, rattle .

This was the first time I actually talked to you as well , I asked how you would be getting home and was amazed to hear that you were just going to drive it back to Brum, as you had another gearbox sitting in the workshop . Must have been 1994 or 1995 ?

cant remeber the temps on the day but the non nos time was typical of what the car produced in that spec... oh and it was on a standard gearbox which blew itself to bits on the next nos run

Mike, what were you driving back then? The Saph?

And what spec/power was it?

Martin,
It was 12-Jun-1994 .

Doug,
The Sapphire - totally and utterly bog standard, as the best of the weekend 15.14 quarter proved - I'd only had the car 6 weeks .

It stayed standard for over a year , getting Stage 1 chipped in August 1995 (which is the first time I met Harvey). So I actually met Martin before I met Harvey...

Nearly 11 years ago......I owned a black 3DR then (D938 PGT)......it was standard for about a month, then had a Paul Bailey Stage 1 conversion/chip

I guess we are all addicted to Cossies............

if the gas running out too soon is a issue for people why has no one turned an oversized tubing roll cage into a bottle to hold it ? surely if it was designed properly it would hold a lot more gas than any bottle could ? we have been using the frames of drag bikes to hold fuel for years which obviously saves on the weight of a tank and takes up no extra space .

why not ?? surely its the same as having a bottle strapped 3 foot behind your head and pipes running beside you

ps i think the next fad will be twin 600 brake yb engined cossies (with an extra 400 brake of gas on tap )

Brad, cause my bottle is specfically made to hold several thousand pounds of pressure, and my rollcage isnt.

Also you wouldnt be able to gravity fill the nitrous in the car unless you had the refill bottle 6 foot in the air, lol

Personally i find an 11lb bottle perfectly adequete for a whole day at the drag strip.

That gives me enough nitrous for a dozen runs at 150bhp progressive roughly, and ive never done that many runs in one day anyway.

chip im not suggesting you use your cage m8 , i am talking about a specially made cage for the purpose
we couldnt use the standard bike frame to hold fuel so we had to make one specially for it .

It still wouldnt want it even if it was made for the purpose, if it fractured in a crash (which it WILL as its a structural part of the car) you would have a 1000psi bomb going off a few inches from your head.

Bottles dont suffer the same problem.

you do it if you want to, but no way im ever going to.

nice idea in theory i guess, but the other thing with a car over a bike is that if you want more gas just fit another bottle too, i know someone who runs 2 11lb bottles in his astra for example.

I cant imagine any insurance company covering you for a roll cage / bomb / nitrous bottle either

im not into gas m8 (although my dog is farting like never before today ) its not something im into . if i wanted silly silly bhp i would use american muscle . im building my engine to produce 500 to 550 brake as i wouldnt use any more than that on the road anyway , and i want it to last .

With modern turbos its no longer really needed for 550bhp, but i would say that (for my personal taste) a T4 YB needs a 50bhp nitrous kit as antilag so that when you put your foot down at 3Krpm something actually happens.

Martin would beat your 194.7 off gas thats all I will say, but like my 204 & 0-100 6.8 it was unofficial on the Stack so dont enter the argument.
Prob is I intend to run my car Topspeed at just one more event & then only three runs Mark, Mine & my sons, so do not expect to waste a run off gas.
The Horsepower to get from 195 to 200 wll be over 100 horses wait till you try, Will be over 800 next time & dont expect to trouble the Rockets 205.8 will settle for 204.
