Nice one Chip
I seem to remember Boyles law now........
..........'bout 1976 last time I saw that formula.
I'll go and dig my old books out

So, anyway, about my 10,000rpm thoughts. Feasible?

Well it depends on what you mean by feasable, ultimately if you get a cam with a LOT of lift and a BIG duration then its going to be possible to breathe enough air, especially if you get the biggest valves you can in there without them being too shrowded, the question though is wether thats the best way to get a big figure, as the downside is that its going to generate less power "off cam" when you are lower down the rev range.

also if you shorten the stroke and make the bore as wide as possible then you end up with a bigger potential valve area in relation to the swept volume

another issue of course is the turbo itself, in order to provide boost at that sort of rpm with the rate that your new huge cammed shortstroke monster is consuming it means its going to be a big turbo, which means it doing bugger all until you are revving the tits off it.

So personally i wouldnt want that engine anyway, especially given how little time the rings and bearings are likely to last!

.....which of course was the problem with the turbo F1 engines...........lag!
Of course you could get over that to some extent with N2O, yes?

I started that fad more than two years ago, when I realised the fruitlessness of chasing numbers . My Escort is so much a better car than my Sapphire ever was and the Escort is considerably slower top speed wise...

I still want more response, so agree that GT turbo's are the way forward - 530bhp with full boost from 3000rpm .

Yes nitrous is the answer to most problems to be honest (except the "why does my bottle empty too quickly problem!)

you can use it to fill in wonderfully until the boost arrives.

Phil,
I didn't realise how good my Escort was until I drove my old car back to back with it, and after having doubts if I had gone the right way, that one 25 mile drive confirmed that I had indeed done the right thing - T4s are shit . You need to experience the Escort to see for yourself...

Steve,
I'm not on about engines that last 2 miles / never get driven . And you left the smilies off the quote - no actually leave them off, as I really am that far up my own arse .

WRC cars DON'T have over 400+bhp .

See, even shonky Interpro were trend setters before you

INTERPRO

Going by that i estimate even Oz at TurboTouch had an engine done for responce over outright power at least a week before you mike

Have another

Okay, I was the first person with blond hair, living in Norfolk, with a white Escort Cosworth on gold wheels to advocate that chasing numbers was pointless and a waste of time / money and instead to go from big power to "medium" power, loads of response and drivability. Others have recently followed this route... Is that specific enough ?

They blow up . The restrictor gives them single figure boost pressure, which means they run double figure compression ratios to compensate. Removing the restrictor and upping the boost on a WRC engine, would see it melt quicker than a bar of chocolate on a Cossie cam cover .

Doug,
You're obviously on drugs - fitting GT28s has been done for years, the new thing I was pointing out is that people are going for big power AND drivability. With shonky T4 cars (like yours ), you only get the big power at the SACRIFICE of drivability. With a GT28, you only get drivability with the SACRIFICE of big power . Hope that helps .

Can I point you to the highlighted word - on most tracks where you spend 99% of the time above the dead zone, it doesn't really matter a jot about response (within reason).

Also Steve's has the benefit of a top flight 6 speed dog box and Paul's has an all up weight of around 1000kg - so another .

Doug,
And both have to have things done to the car to aid this shit turbo - Steve with his 4.4 gearing (130mph top speed ) and superb dog box to keep it on boost and Paul with his light weight .

So you've really picked two good examples to show the T4 shine . It doesn't. it's shit and doesn't come on boost until 4k, which makes it horrible to drive on the road.

for what?? "The Mike Rainbird off boost cosworth road race"?

you've shot yourself in the foot with the "on most tracks where you spend 99% of the time above the dead zone, it doesn't really matter a jot about response " and you know it

to be honest, before you get yourself all worked up, I completely agree with you, I just like arguing

what I dont understand is why you didnt just go gt30 in the first place, if your engine is so revolutionary you should have been one of the first with this turbo fitted, not waited till it was proven first
