Ditto.
I don't even use the abreviated text style even for a text message.
Most of the time it doesn't make sense and takes ages to actually work out what's being said.

To see it being used on a forum gets on my nerves

Irritates the shit out of me. You don't talk that way so why text. Induces bad grammar and laziness.

Pity DaveEsCos can't comment as I know he'd be the same, but let's wait until someone from North Yorks see this

It had a place 'back in the day' when it cost to send text messages, and there was a limit to the number of characters per text - but in this day and age there is absolutely no reason for it, especially not on a forum.

It makes the writer come across like a lazy stupid little kid who's using their mum's computer.

It doesnt cost 10p for a 240 character post on the internet, therefore is completely redundant on any internet forum, where actually, you can post your life story in complete detail for free.

It makes it a damn sight harder to read, and is VERY irritating.

As said above, there's no need for it!

I was watching "The Family" last night [I lost my remote control privileges. Don't ask] and the elder daughter said about 5 times "She Axed me...". I actually tried to reach into the TV and rip her throat out.

so true!!!I was never a fan of the old text system of 160 characters so I tended to make a brief call instead, but I'd talk so fast (which is a trait of the welsh!!) as I was afraid of using up my minutes so it would be "yeah, see u in 5,I'm on my way" all in about 2 nano seconds!!!

As for abbreviations and text speak, the only one I tend to use are IMHO,afaik, very occasionally u if I miss the wrong button on the I phone and tbh.

I've found myself using lol too much lately, must learn!!

A lot of this text speak I believe comes from the younger generation, poor writing etc.(not ect what the fuck is that????) where I think it's now so commonplace that even teachers, lecturers etc ignore it.

There was a lad on yesterday looking for advice regarding engine conversions into an rst for a college project, the thread dave got banned on!! Ok,Dave did his usual bull in a china shop approach to point out the young mans poor grammar and spelling issues but it does prove a point, that we are producing a generation of children that IMO () will struggle to be able to write a letter,cv or other important document without the assistance of someone else.

I'm certainly not tarring them all with the same brush, darylc on here is a good example of an intelligent young man able to express himself through writing rather than text speak, something I personally still believe is a very important skill in life.

Yh,get bk 2 wk u fkn muppetzzz,lol!!!Ect ect (arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh).

This is not going to end up another 45 pager is it?!

From my point of view, as I touch type, it would actually take me longer to write the words in text format as I would have to make a conscious effort to miss keys out.

Drives me nuts, to a point that I no longer reply to text messages off people if I have to read it more than once to understand what the fuck he or she is actually talking about.

Why put, Wha or Tha , is it really that had to add the "T" on the end.

I find it easier and quicker to type normal as you dont have to think about it and like everyone else side sometimes it takes ages to work out what the hell is being said.

text speak is gay when used anywhere other than a text message and even then its not necessary these days unless your a poor person on the shitest pay as you go tariff from 5 years ago

What i find really really pathetic is that text speak is allowable in exams http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...h-answers.html

totally fucking pathetic. text speak is NOT a recognised language so has no place being acceptable in our education system. And its not as if you are taught to speak and write in text speak as a young child so there is no acceptable excuse for using it in exams.

it was decided back in 2006. shows how pathetic this country has become. I remember a similar article where the exam boards defended it saying it helped inclusion for those from a poor educational background sorry but where do you learn to speak in text speak?? you dont. and if they are soo poor they wont be giving their kids mobile phones and credit to text each other at the ages from 4-8 as they will be too poor to afford it

so either way the exam boards excuse is lame.
