Default Quick Ebay Question

I sold my phone on ebay earlier, and the buyer had only just registered so 0 feedback and all, which i found suspicious at first.

Then i have just received this message from the buyer;

Dear mikeyrobbo93,

Hello,

I just sent the payment for the item. I also included an estimated £50 for the cost of shipping to South Africa for my Husband.

Please let me know when you get a notification from paypal that i have sent you a payment. Send the item via royal mail international sign for.

I have notified him about this gift, please ship out as soon as you got the confirmation of payment from paypal. I gave his address to paypal for verification and it has been confirmed so it should be in the payment notification.

His correct mailing address again is:

Olufemi K, Address: 695 Picasso Street,22 Sunflower,Moreleta Park,0181,South Africa,

Thanks and I hope to read from you as soon as possible cos I want this to get to him at the shortest period of time. Thanks for your understanding .

Errica,

Haven't received any payment yet, so obviously not going to ship, but all seems a little strange dont you think, extra £50 and all, plus the fact they say they have paid and they haven't.

I've seen alot of mobile phones on ebay and the sellers refuse to ship them to south africa, whats the story with that, i've heard you can get scammed but how does the scam work.

They tell you they have paid, then a blag email gets sent to your email. On your ebay account they mark as paid (will show an egg timer shape)

You send the phone and get fuck all money.

Mate, that email is a fake, so its not "ok on paypals behalf" at all!

Its a scam, thats a pretend email that hasnt come from paypal its come from the "buyer" (or theif to be more accurate!)

yeah i have heard about that one mate, was just wondering if there was anymore. In future if anyone buys anything from africa i was thinking whether you could film the product clearly working before you sent it, then offer insurance and send it recorded. That way if they say its broken, you have proof it was working first hand, and you did offer insurance, so if they have chose not to take that offer up and it has got damaged in transit then that's their responsibility. And they can't screw you by saying they haven't got it cause you can clearly see whether its been signed for or not

hi ive been stung to
checked the item over and over before i sent it
she then said it was damaged and opened a case agaist me
told her to send it back and she refused until i send her more money for her postage costs so she refused to return
i offered her a discount on the item she demanded more, she ended uo getting them for half price and a lot less than what they were worth. i wouldn't of minded but they were on for 0.99p start and she made me an offer to take them off, should of left the auction to run. i she was in cumbria so dont just think its an over seas thing.

thx

one big scam. I put in my listings now, only people with 10+ feed back and no nigerian princes. south african kings or other scams cos i will re-list and report you to ebay. specially after "prince bellend" of Nigeria tried to have my pants down a while back when i sold a mountain bike.

you can edit your settings to not allow bidders without a bank card on file and less than 5 feedback, plus you can block bidders in countries you dont post to. id suggest doing it asap.

Obviously now you know its a scam, you can go along with it and say youve posted it out, just to get his hopes up!

But i know what id do, he'd get a great big steaming turd in a box! If you want to go that bit further, you can get spring loaded boxes too for the extra 'pebble dashing' effect, well worth a few quid.

As per above, set up your buyer requirements to stop it happening again:

I really need to start coming here for advice from now on, could have carried it on, but my "african prince" got a load of shite, and surprisingly backed out of the sale!

Give the number a call and see who answers.

But I sure as hell wouldnt be sending anything until beyond the 30days in which they have to make a claim.

As a tester...post an empty letter to the address and say the goods are on their way.

With those sort of costs...is it really worth using egay ?

Their extortionate charges are the very reason I dont try and sell stuff there anymore.

there are so many scams out there. people do fall for them or they wouldnt do it. dont send it unless the money is safely in you bank account, as left in paypal it can get robed too.
