Would this cause my steering to feel funny?
My Fiesta Cosworth since ive had it always feels really light/funny when turning the wheel like the wheels are folding underneath the car or the tracking is funny.
Previous owner said it needs some adj tca to make it feel better as there is no camber on the wheels.
but taking a closer look the coloumn were it joins to the rack seems very weird angle.
it comes out of the bulkhead and a say 120degree angle onto a knuckle which goes straight down into a 180 degree angle nearly then to another knuckle which goes back to another 120 degree.
i dont know if this would make it feel funny as im just checking. obviously cant compare it to anyones as its not a run of the mill fiesta lol.
here is a pic and a diagram to show what i mean.

When you turn the wheel from lock to lock slowly, does it feel light, heavy, light, heavy... at quarter turns?
If, yes, then the steep angle is causing definately trouble. It looks too steep an angle as the joint is just an universal joint and not a constant velocity one.

camber
it needs more camber ,shocks are to vertical need to be laid back more ,need to alter top of shocks turn alloy pates back or get adjustable comp struts and move tcas forward ,its never going to be perfect coz with a shorter wheel base the ackerman has altered ,you could alter the steering arms to compensate

sorry mate its caster not camber ,it feels like under steer like your pushing the front in corners ,its the same when we did the set up in world super bikes ,if we raised the rear to much it made the forks to steep and pushed the front and made it feel vague ,coz the front forks were to steep ,same with struts coz of the room with arches etc you might have to push tcas forward and bring srut tops back to get it right as it can be .but it will never be perfect because the wheel base is shorter ,it was only built as a bit of fun why dont you just leave it as it instead of trying to turn it into somthing it will never be,unless you are prepared to have new uprights made with different steering arms etc made, you need to realise that these conversations are a compomise because you are putting suspension in cars that are shorter so all the geometry that was built in, is out the window

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
still think a lot of it to do with angle of steering but ya could try more caster and some camber could meke huge difference withut spending much. do you have a rear mounted rollbar or compression struts. cant imagins someone going bother of building somethng like this and not checking geometry

PassionFord Post Whore!!
Without wishing to hijack this thread but on the same subject, can anyone shed any light on my steering problem? When i lock round fairly hard either going forwards or reversing (such as entering a tight parking space) my car feels as if it suddenly slips across to the side. The closest thing i can compare the feeling to is like your front wheels are sitting on round pebbles and then as you turn, the wheels slide off the pebbles and the car seems to hop to the side. My thoughts are that it could be ball joints but to be honest, how cold it is at the moment i can't be arsed to crawl under the car to have a look. Any other suggestions what to look at when i build up the enthusiasm. By the way the car is a 1998 2.0 Mondeo Si.
