i know bike engines arent really favoured anymore as they need to be revved to fuck to get anything from them as they dont produce massive amounts of torque but im no expert, just what ive heard

They go well low down yes and feel faster because of the noise. They are generally lighter than a car engined kit car too. Sequential gearbox is good too.

They do struggle once up in the higher speeds though where a car engined car doesnt so much.

Mine goes OK after 100

What kind of car is it... MK Indy? Mac#1? Get some photos/videos up please

I've been out in a Mac#1 Worx which was running a ZX10R, that was quick but wasn't mind blowing by any means, especially at higher speeds when compared to a decent spec cossie/Evo etc.

I'm currently building a Mac Worx with a ZX10R engine with gt3076 turbo, so that should give it a bit more top end poke

Certainly will help!

Will also cause a spectacular mess when it goes bang at 11000rpm!

Thanks for the vote of confidence

It should be alright though, was built and spec'd by BigCC Racing, among other things it has JE pistons, Arrow rods, Cometic head gasket etc... fingers crossed, lol.

will be the gearbox then that goes first

seen some footage of the turbo bike engined kits on youtube and they do go really well,
think i will stick with my zetec in mine tbh lots cheaper when it goes bang
i did have a look at a few bike engined kits before i bought mine and loved the noise/gearbox but went for a car engine in the end plus i could always turbo the zetec

Most BEC struggle after 100mph due to the gearing

My old zx9 Stuart Taylor was gutless after 90mph

My current R1 MKIndy (fuel injected) is so much quicker it pulls to 100mph with ease but tops out at 119mph I was doing the 1/4 in 13.22 on road tyres if I'd fitted my 888 i would've knock 0.2sec off my 60ft and mostly likely got into the 12s iwas crossing the line at 100mph

Off the mark or on some twisty roads they are awesome you be hard pushed to keep pace with it round where I live

You either like them or you don't I love the bike engined noise and the way it just rev's you just got to be above 8k all the time to get the best out of them

My personal choice now is I'd never buy a BEC unless it has a 1000cc engine and fuel injected you need 150bhp+ to really enjoy this type of kit car

And i wouldn't want a zx10 or zx12 engined BEC as the gearbox's are very soft and prone to failing when pushed hard, that's not to say the engines aren't awesome as they are just wish the gearbox's where better

To be honest, I've not heard of a ZX10R/ZX12R engined car doing a box, not saying they're bullet proof or anything near, but certainly not made of chocolate like people are suggesting... time will tell.

god knows what mine would be like if it got finnished, at 100 mph i will only just be coming out of 2nd of a 6 speed, i think the bottle would go long before top speed reached, shame i'm looking at pulling the engine out and putting in an engine with twice the power + going 4x4!!! and its not even finnished yet

luego viento, one of the few 7 style kits to take bigger people and bigger engines, at the moment its got a 2004 dodge viper engine and 6 speed, but looking at maybe going gt40 5.4 v8 with a bigger supercharger or twin turbo, either way i want 4x4 and a 1000hp at the wheels, no point messing with little engines, they not fast enough, with the viper engine its geared for 61mph in 1st, but going v8 i'll have to change the ratio because i can't get a front to match the rear i have, but the v8 will have 2k more revs, so will do 68 in 1st gear, oh yes, and the ecu of the viper engine has a remap, don't khow hp but guessing at least 550hp and 575lbs/ft

looks like this so far, its running mustang running gear all round, 18" wheels 10J rears, 9J fronts, 355mm discs up front with 6 pots, diff is lsd with electric lock up switch if i need to be locked

the front hoop of the roll bar has now gone, did't like it, so it now looks more like any other 7 kit, just bigger

and a video of the running engine.

My brother had an MK Indy with the 919 Carb Fireblade Engine, I have a 87 911 3.2. They were about even to about 80-90mph and then the 911 would continue accelerating whereas the MK would slowly creep towards 100+ mph.

The MK has an inherent design issue with the steering which is easily sorted but requires altering the front arms of the mounting points. His and everyone I have driven always felt unsafe like it was going to kill you.

He gave up in the end and bought a caravan.

Read on tinternet they struggle after 100 mph?
Anyone had any experiences?
Ive driven a 220 bhp kit car and it was amazing !
My 500bhp 3 door couldnt catch it until well over 130 mph!
Hope i like this as much

it is very easily sorted and only affects cars based on Sierra hubs it 1 of the mods i intent to do if mine doesn't sell, TBH it isn't as bad as everyone tries to make out, i've never noticed it on mine but then again mine has been corner weighted and had the geometry setup by Protec

my stuart taylor felt like it was a better handling car

What sort of weight are you expecting it to be when on the road?

It's going to go very very well in a straight line, I can imagine it being a handful through the twisties though!

What are these mods then? I'm intrigued

i want to keep the weight with driver under the tonne, in rear drive it was only going to be a ideways toy, but worked out a 4wd setup for it and to get weight down i'm now going alloy ford gt 5.4 v8 with either twin turbo or big supercharger, with 4wd i'm looking for at least 1k bhp at the wheels, with the 4wd i'm hoping it might go round corners as well

It'll definitely be one hell of a toy!

With mine i've always had this daft ambition/aim of having 1000bhp per tonne (even though i'll never need that much), it should be perfectly achievable really with the car weighing in at around 450kg on the road and theres no reason why it couldnt make circa 450bhp, I guess we'll find out next year!

On a side note... I'd love to see some video clips of polly x's Westy being driven hard, i reckon that thing would boogie along nicely!

i want to go with supercharger for the instant power over the turbo lag, with the turbo setup i can do whatever hp i want, and 1k hp will be easy as 300hp out of a cossie, the problem with supercharging is the heat from the supercharger, there is a charge cooler that sits under the supercharger and has water running through it, but its not big, and space is limited to make it bigger, but i think i have a way of intercooling it instead, but i won't be able to work on that till after xmas, going to order the ford gt inlet to have a look at and a work out if what i want to do looks do able, want to use the gt inlet because it comes factory with 2 injector holes per cylinder

i think there is one somewhere, or one of a kind, its sort of on hold at the moment because i'm working in the states, but while out here i'm going to get the GT engine built and work the idea of the 4wd, and get a T56 converted to 4x4, the car itself will have some work done on it when i go home for a couple of months next year some time, i'm thinking, because of the money being spent i might just bit the bullet and get the body made in carbon fibre, once the nose and bonnet have been worked so they clear the engine, its going flip front so i don't get a face full of bonnet at silly speeds, as in a previous post, i think i will run out of bottle before the top speed is acheved
