Default Best way to do an accurate compression test(6cyl Beemer)

Ok,got my compression tester today and going to try and get my beemer sorted asap.

Now on the pack it says to get the engine warm before testing, does that sound right?I wasn't sure whether to do a test from cold as well?

I'm assuming I'm looking at reasonably consistent readings across the 6cylinders,what sort of tolerance am I allowed or even what sort of readings should i expect?

Thanks again,it's a 328i m52 engine.

make sure you pull fuel pump fuse for a start

if engine dosent run then you have no choice ref the hot / cold thing

but would be better warm as components will work best at opperating temp

take all six plugs out

when connected turn engine same amount of times for every cylinder to get readings

there should be no large difference between cyl's ie 1@ 120 & 1@ 75 but you will get slight differences in readings here and there

jobs a good un

If u have low readings on a particular piston, poor some two stroke oil down the bore to show if its rings / bore related.

Good thinking regarding fuel pump fuse!!the car runs ok but it's had a few cooling issues which I'd like to address before I spend any more time and money on this engine!!!Thanks again.

Ahh haa!!so that way round it shows that it's bore related as the 2 stroke provides the sealing necessary to provide a reading therefore proving wear in that cylinder?Cool!!!

do the test with dry cylinders then a couple pumps of engine oil from an oil can to do a wet test
