Default loft conversion q for the pf builder types

ok, so i'm not going to convert it to living space, but i want to make it a bit warmer so it's all about making it air tight and wind proof and insluated and shit like that so i'm after the basics

so can i just whack in some foam insulation inbetween the rafters and then cover it up with plaster board?

what do i do about strenghtening the floor? just screw some thicker joists in?

etc

any other suggestions other than "get a builder in"

Roofs need ventilaton so you can't really make it air tight. Why do you want to do all this if your not going to use the space?

Screwfix sell some thermal foil insulation that seems good. Staple that to the rafters and board over it. It's about £150 a roll though! If your only using the space as storage though any boarding is overkill.

As for the floor... If it's only for storage I would just use some 18mm t&g chipboard flooring and don't go too wild with what you put up there.

nail 50mm battern on the ends of sum 6by2 or 8by2 span from wall plate to wall plate or a load bearing wall, this will carry ur new floor, and also take the weight of the ceiling, as it wont be touching 50mm on ends, also u can stud up to perlings if u wont if there lower enouf, as for insulation u can put inbetween rafters as long as u cut out and put in vents in ur sofet board to stop condensation droping on ur plasterboard, the roll stuff is o,k but i found that ur best of battering it on as the plasterboard will look uneven hope this helps

This isn't really something you can do on the cheap without it biting you in the ass...

there is the roof
with tiles on it
and some lining under the tiles
but nothing else
so it gets COLD up there

so that's the first port of call

once that's done then i can worry about the rest of it

i've also got an open chimney so that's soemthing that can let the air flow around, but i need to stop all the heat from coming out of it so that's the next step once the insulation stuff is done
