There can't be many of the project cars left these days.
Wonder what happened to that Saxo MP did? The Astra burned didn't it?
RSKicker is still about isn't it? Be interesting to see pics of that and the Corrado. I've got a stack of pictures of Project 2000 on my laptop, but that's the only one I've really seen in years!

I wouldn't be surprised if the Max Astra got scrapped, as they properly fucked it!
Incidentally my wife designed the graphics on the 'Project Maxo'! She used to work on Max (which is where we met)

the saxo (project maxo) got traded in at my work years ago when i was still an apprentice, i have never seen such a badly made car lol! you could see the spotwelds on the arches through the paint!
everything on it that was supposed to be carbon fibre simply wasnt and the rollcage was bolted straight through the floor with no strengthening plates whatsoever!
all the stereo equipment was long gone as well by that point
my mates upon seeing it didnt believe it was the same one they did as it was that badly built but i then dug out the mag with it in and the reg numbers tallyed up so there was no denying it then!!
think my boss got about 8 grand for it in the end

Ahh, won't miss it as it became the magazine that all the fucktard chav twats would read.... well... look at the pictures and dribble while they worked out what they could steal next to buy some stick on fibreglass shit for their mums poverty spec 5 door Renault Clio.
Lets be honest though, we all read it back in the day and it did used to be kind of cool when it was actually about the cars back in the 90's

Rolling hrnouts and getting banned from the uk apparently for leaving the police t5's that were chasing him because he thought they were trying to race him from what I can remember
Also the norris evo doing 187 through he Hatfield tunnel
I'm sure someone will remember some more things that would never be printed, let alone admited by any publication nowadays.

who was it that span a 306 on a bend
and is it the same cola who was on here that had the escort that was in one of the mags?
if you think about it realistically though, you could probably list who was what and how it shaped tuning at the time, but i think it spawned it's fair amount of cowboys as well

10K+ Poster!!
Its kind of sad seeing it end, they did have some pretty good cars sometimes, I have one of the issues with ELE the 3 door, 1000bhp supras and the like, it wasn't all bad. Its where I learnt about companies like top secret and Jun auto. Isn't there one last issue coming? I'll buy it.

I was sitting here reading this thread genuinely thinking how nice it is to sit and read a discussion from people who know what they're talking about, ie people that work/have worked on the mags themselves, then about 3 pages in it all went to shit! Ah well.
Like many on here i used to buy and read MP and dream of the days i could afford to modify a nova so it looked like some kind of snow plough cum aeroplane and sounded like a wet fart! I had a stack of magazines so huge it reached the light switch in bedroom!! The two mags i always bought were MP and Redline, mainly because they were pretty well written. Fast Car used to do my head in! Who wrote the picture captions?! Wait, did he come on this thread about 3 pages in??
It is suprising though. I mean yes many of us in here can say we used to read mags such as MP but grew out of that, but then you'd think there the next generation would come along and be into the same sort of thing? Obviously not.
Always a shame when you hear of something from your youth going down the pan like this i think, but the market obviously isnt there the same way it was before.

I couldnt agree more. I never bought it and i hated all the body kitted cars. I still dont like them now. I like a bit of body kit but not loads. I used to be more into custom cars.

you may not have bought it, but plenty of people did
just for the sake of asking, has anyone got the peak sales figures of various magazines that have stopped publication now?
i know that max power had sales in the region of 280,000 (and fast ford has around 20,000 as has been hinted at by dan recently for just a direct comparison) so what were the likes of fast car and redline doing at the same sorts of times compared to the peaks of, say, ccc, fast lane, etc?

It was a superb magazine back in the day.
That pic I posted had articles on (from memory) a Mk2 RS 2000, saff cossie, pics of the "new" Escort Cosworth, Chevette, RWD hot hatches, article on head porting.
Was obviously never going to be as specialist as CCC, but it was still pretty good for those of us who grew up dreaming of owning 205 GTis or R5 Turbos etc....

Redline peaked at just under 90k, the same for Revs, think FCs best was around 180k (will check that) the other mags were in the teens. Most single make mags now sell under 10k.

He blagged loads of bits for it, then sold it on for a tidy profit, as he did several times!
Just do what I did and put him on the 'Ignore' list. Problem solved.
There was so many things that went on behind the scenes that people never heard about - Like Performance Bikes borrowing a Skyline from Max Power and then promptly smashing it to pieces on the first roundabout they got to. Or the XR2i I took to Bruntingthorpe - I lost it spectacularly getting lift-off oversteer pictures for the camera, went into the 'infield' and smashed into a huge concrete block hidden in the long grass! Oops!

if you think that back in the day they were about Ł3 a pop, max floging 100,000 more units at it's peak than the nearest competition is Ł300 grand a MONTH
ok, one more question, seeing as you are a bit of an expert at this figures lark why do some companies state a "readership" figure as opposed to a number of copies they've shifted?
does that mean that you can buy one copy for a household of 4 and that instantly quadruples your count or is it more difficult than that?

The only circulation figure that's official is the ABC one. Go to http://www.abc.org.uk/ and type in a magazine. Ours has fluctuated in recent months, and the month when it snowed was a crippler, hence the ABC is less than we currently sell. Any magazine NOT declaring an ABC has something to hide - i.e. a very low circulation.
