Hasn't this been discussed before? I've read that Vauxhalls (as naive as it sounds) launch better than Fords due the standard suspension/engine placement or something?

It did seem wierd that LET Tigras and Corsas of average power, on Gmax shocks seemed to get better 60fts than the equivalent Ford. Sure it was posted with examples before.

Agreed to a certain extent. It may well be quick for a 'UK' Ford, but I was mentioning his time in relation to the other FWD Ford mentioned on the very same page he posted.

I do believe that FWD Ford, has achieved a 9.7, which in my opinion is a fair way quicker than a 12.7

If i was running 12's and yet another FWD Ford was running 9's, I would perhaps go back to the drawing board or ask advice at the very least.

the fiesta that ran a 9.7 is a full on drag car from hungary all the ford lot of here who do 1/4 miles are road cars that run road tyres Some of which are peoples daily drivers with full trim ect

this thread is about specky running a 9.8 which is unreal and every credit to him !!!

The AK Golf is 4wd, single engine. There is also a green Mk2 Golf which potentially should go even faster.

Both I recall are on the 4wd Audi setup, possibly not stock stuff though.

As a few have said, the Hungarian Fiesta is full on drag car and the only Ford this side of the USA that has gone that far, hence why it's the fastest. A street legal, fully trimmed Orion running 12.7 in comparsion to the fastest FWD Ford in the UK right now (12.1) is pretty much in the same ball park really!

I've seen the white Mk1 Golf run a 9.9 at North Weald, which is a totally unprepped surface. Looked immense! I heard 800bhp being mentioned and a totally standard Audi 4WD system!

I'm not sure if the box is standard in that thing, I think it might be a dog box of some sort.

Either way the car cost in the region of 100k to put together so only a little more than Speckys car owes him

Not a chance on 10k

Quick break down of roughly whats needed, obviously there will be a fair few other things I left out !

Car Ł1000
Tall engine Ł4-5k
Exhaust manifold Ł750- Ł1000
Turbo Ł1000+
Wastegate Ł300+
Inlet manifold Ł500+
Fuel system Ł1000
Gearbox and diff Ł750
Ecu and loom Ł1000+
Wheels and tyres Ł400

I would say if you budget between 15-20k you could replicate his car as it is, obviously like anything its probably cost him more than that with development and trial and error of certain parts.

In terms of what some other people have spent its very much a budget 9 sec car but its not a few grands worth

That's for Specky's Tigra mate; he's on a virtually standard gearbox with a diff.

F28 6 speed Calibra turbo gearbox Ł250
Quaife ATB differential Ł500

Obviously if you chose to use a plated LSD then they are more like Ł750 + for the diff alone.

Specky has done the right thing, the car isn't flash or overly bling although being honest its much nicer to look at now than it was. Its got what it needs only and although it doesn't have a Ł2000 crankshaft in it or dry sump system its proved to be reliable enough to warrant not spending a load more on those.

Those prices I listed are in general, not aimed at what Speckys car will of cost, I know enough about LET engines to have a idea what parts cost and as far as Vauxhalls go everyone chooses to use the same gearbox/diff and suspension which tends to be a fuck load cheaper than anything the Ford boys can get their hands on.

Manifolds are all similar money, turbo's ARE a grand or so, sometimes double that depending on what you use, still worst scenario its no where near a 20-30k car which is why IMO its so bloody impressive.

Indeed, there are SO many examples from around the world managing it and it really isnt that big a deal if you put your mind to it.
Luca if you actually look at speckys car next time its at the pod or whatever you'll be amazed how little changes there actually are to the car other than a big power engine and some basic suspension upgrades.
People seem to dissapear up their own arses getting overly complicated but you really dont need to and Speckys car proves that wonderfully.

Keep it simple, add lots of power, and get shitloads of seat time as that is the other key thing that speckys car had, he's just been in it constantly!
I bet none of us could put his car into the 9s without about 1000 practice runs first like he has had!

I have seen the car and have nothing but admiration for the car and owner.
Very friendly bunch of lads of whom one (didn’t get name) insisted on guiding me out with the burnout on drag – Top Lad!.
He owes me a clutch now though!

However, if aimed at me as to why mines not doing fantastic "Vauxhall spec" times considering the cars spec…. You answered that yourself.

Seat time and the fact I have wanted to build a car that is neutral and competent in all areas be it – Drag – Track – Top speed.

For that reason it complicates being the fastest or quickest on the strip.
However I am slowly progressing with it all and having a great time learning

I am sure mine will be knocking on the door of a high 10 with drag slicks and a few practice runs.

It's wouldn't be legal here without some mods - it's got a tube frame front end with a 1 piece lift off fibreglass nose section.

None of that makes it illegal though, the only thing I see thats none road legal is the lack of tread on the tyres

None of that makes it illegal though, the only thing I see thats none road legal is the lack of tread on the tyres

I didn't mean the tube frame is illeagal, I meant it as there's no mounting points etc... for lights, although to be fair it doesn't need headlights, but indicators and an exhaust etc... will be needed. Easy enough to add though in theory.
