What you looking to do? if it's just a spruce up then a clay, 2-3 Coats of Super Resin Polish and wax will work wonders
If your looking to cut the paint back then you really should have a machine
i need to machine compound my car as you can still the glue from the ex-po-po stickers - i only had the car 3 years
Tar and Glue remover would have sorted that out surley?
You shouldn't machine anything other than a perfectly clean and clayed finish otherwise your just rubbing anything on the paint back into it causing scratches and swirls.

srp wont do and why would you want to do 2-3 coats of srp i dont know
some menzerna 106fa on a light polishing pad will be less work than 3 coats of srp

SRP have very very mild abrasives, also has some fillers and leaves a nice base for any coats of wax or sealents
cheers for the info i already knew
why would you need 3 coats of it,your just masking the defects instead of tackling them.
I don't appreciate the attitude to be honest.
At the end of the day I didn't see what he wanted to do.
And if he was just lookign at getting rid of swirls etc by hand then a few coats of SRP is perfect.

i dont have an attitude just correcting your wrong info.srp wont get rid of swirls,it has light abrasives and you wouldn't even notice a difference if you ipa'd the panel after applying srp.it contains more fillers which will mask the swirls not correct them and contains a light sealant.srp is only good for lazy folk that dont want to correct there car properly

mate am not arguing with you,the op asked about g3 or g10 which is a heavy compound and you come on with mis advised crap about srp,srp wouldny even polish the cheese off ma foreskin.now your banging on about tools.(sigh)
im out
just be carefull with G3, you can very easlily rub through an edge with it, its very harsh. but will do what you want very quickly
Good point,it is harsh but he should be ok by hand on a paint edge.
We didn't get soft edge probs when we were painting but I know where we did the blow in there would be a little dry patch which we always hand polished.
