Default That's it for 2010 then....

Drove the S1 for the last time this year today....done all of 180 miles this year and now away for the winter. Wanted to give her a bit more use this year but been a difficult one and with family problems etc just haven't had the time. Never use the car past the end of October and I go on holiday next week anyway, so that's that for 2010....

Anyone else getting prepared for the winter hibernation ?

I understand not using it in the wet, but I would be using it all year round in the dry. Seems a bit of a waste of a good car if you've only done 180 miles this year!

Just printed off the Tax refund form and will get the tax disk off car later. That'll be mine now until April. Going into a friends warehouse this year over the winter as I'm going to rip the garage down. Not really used mine much this year either...just not had time!

My xr2's been tucked away over 2 months now, clutch went after last rwyb and mot + tax were due so i thought bugger it for this year. Been my daily hack for 2 year now. Looking sorry for itself after last winter. Full resto planned, busy building new motor and not be back till next summer

Dreading removing the xr2 kit lol, but needs must.

i can understand trying to keep your pride and joy away from a british winter,
(i'm scottish so we get them good up here),
but for me cars are for driving so i use them all year round if poss,
fair enough not taking it out if its bad weather but i just like to have it there for whenever i want it,
i know lots of people put them off the road to work on over the winter,
but goping off the road just to hide them away just seems a waste to me,
but each to their own i suppose

driving in salted roads fair enough thats fine

turbo cars are at there best in winter when the air is nice and cold n dence

all that time wasted when they are at there best not getting heat soak in the hot weather well what we have of it anyway

You really do need to get out more Stu - Find a bird that can drive, so you can socialise/drink when your away from work and she can drive

Some people dont use them for reason's other than being scared...

me for instance, bought another car and the S1 has taken a back seat, can't drive them all at once and I don't want to part with it so why sell it just because im not currently using it?

The car isn't kept anywhere near me chaps....not at my house and to take the car out is really best part of a day by the time I get there, go out, put away and get home again....hence why not used much.

As for 'why have it' - why not ? Bought and paid for, and costs me £400 a year to tax, insure and MOT and puts a smile on my face when I do take her out.

well according to fast ford thers only around 426 left off the series 1's so they will only be going up in price for good one's is that not a good enought reason. plus why make a mess off your car if you dont need to i use mine alot in summer and last winter i did alot off driving but i wont be doing this. makes it more fun for when you do get out in them

Is that all mate ? My Mondeo has done 7k miles in 6 weeks....and put a price on what makes you smile....£400 for that is cheap in my book. Had nights out that have cost more than that and they have been shite.

Mr Brannen: horses for courses mate, horses for courses....opinions vary. I decide to use my S1 as I do, my choice.

im with you mate ,s1,s are a very rare car these days ,and far more desirable than a escos in their own way,not saying they are better than a escos cause

i would just rather one than a escos

My 3dr has been tucked up for winter since late last year. It came out and got and MOT in May but i decided to buy a new bike and leave it off the rd

TBH if it was money in the bank it'd get spent so it's sitting there as my ferrari deposit.

I'm confused. So i'd sell the cossie to have money in the bank and then i'd spend it on the cossie i just sold?

Oh yeah that happens. I'm going to do a small underside clean up and little bits of paint to make it minted. Want to spend to increase the value so it's all good.

where did you get that car cover from? looks cool as fuck!

i've got the use of four cars, and as said above you can only use one at a time. dunno about anyone else but i find i get stuck in a rut using one car and don't bother with the others for a few months until i'm bored.

Got to agree with the people saying it's slightly sad, maybe sad is the wrong word but you get what I mean! I bought a new ZX636R couple of years ago and used it from new all the way through 2 years come rain shine or snow, even rode it back to manchester from London in the snow once... Took some time mind! But fuck me a paid 6.5k for it and believe me I was gona get me money out of it. 21thou miles once I sold it....

Some will never understand why some of us dont use our cars much, and think its a 'waste' etc. I must admit, i thought the same until i bought my escos. Owned for nearly 5 years, a few hundred miles a year, less than 1000 at most. The other thing is that although many of these cars are sat in the garage most of the time, they dont really depreciate so its a no lose situation really. Best of both worlds. I used to love cleaning mine after every drive out. Sad to many yes, part of it for me was trying to keep it nice, not many will understand. Mine is now gone though. And why? I woke up one moring and thought, 'almost £20k sat in the garage not doing much'. That and the fact that i no longer enjoyed cleaning it after every drive out and it somehow became i chore, i really dont know why, so it had to go once i thought that. Do i regret it!?!?! Too right i do!!!!!

When i owned my 3dr in 2001 i drove it everyday and slagged anyone who garaged their's. Since then ive grown up and agree with what you say above.

It's a nice toy that doesnt lose money and looks pretty in the garage

I used to be the same with riding bikes all year round. I'd rather not go out now than use my zx!

i understand not using them all the time,,,,, you appriciate them more and wont get then stupid crashes on the way to work or in tescos ect that make you loose the pride and joy,,,,, BUT no using it as its winter seems pointless, my car is still taxed and insured so the days when i want to be childish and cheer me up,,,,,, i jump behind the wheel of the scooby and have fun,,,,,, well till it broke that is

Come on guys, how hard is it to walk past your pride and joy and jump into a boring family car! The salt is a killer, so my S1 gets wrapped up till the salt is washed away, then its back on the road again and enjoy after all that is just what ford built the S1 for.
