Default Fiesta Zetec se problem

Hi guys,

My son got a Fiesta Zetec 1.6 se 2001.
Bought it 2 months ago, did a engine service on it including all filters and timebelt.
It has done genuine 52000 miles, and it burns oil like hell...
We did compression test, and that was very good.
It nearly doesn't smoke, and it's not overheating and has good power.

What more could be the problem?
Can it burn that much oil over the valve seals?
Or is it a broken piston oil ring?

Do you guys have any ideas?

I hope you understand the problem in my best English....

As said need to know more specifically the usage but it's not uncommon for the Zetec S engine to use a little oil, the bottom ends are good for big miles as if the rest of the engine and so I should think it would be something like the stem seals, is it actually a Zetec S model? If so it may have had a hard life depending on the previous owner(s).

Normally if it's the seals it will be shown on the overrun, so go down a long hill etc with someone following and step on the gas at the bottom and see if it smokes.

Piston rings usually is the fault , replaced my engine 2 months back due to this , same had good power sounded great.
Sold the old engine onto a guy who wanted to rebuild it.... and from pictures my number 3 cylinder had been burning oil bad !! 1 litre of oil was lasting 350-400 miles.

At the moment it's using 5W-30, 1 litre on 250 miles....

Are the stem seals the one on the valve's??

It's a Phase II engine 1.6se.

Ford is saying you can't take them apart, even they can't because it's got laser alignment. Even they wouldn't be able to put it back together...

Thanks for all the help....

common issue on the zetec s mate, heavy oil consumption followed by knocking bottom end, usually a result of poor servicing.

Common to go at around 50k from experience and the best route is a new bottom end of second hand lump.

I dare say they seller was well aware of the issue and sold before it got to the knocking stage.

Tis a bugger as they can rock on for well over 100k if looked after. Ford did revise the lump in the phase 2's (notiucable by a black rocker cover) but these to have been known to go pop.

Mine was replaced for the same reason. It was my piston rings, which resulted in a knocking bottom end. Oh, and it burnt over 2.5ltrs in lesst than 160miles. Do I win the 'how much oil does your car burn' competition? It was so bad, I could see the oil being burnt out the back window then I booted it

You most definitely win......

Thinking about an engineswap now.
Had a good offer on 1.7 Puma engine, gearbox, loom, cpu....
I think that's the way to go, and more power....
