Default YB Timing

What part of inside the dizzy has to be lined up with the contact?
There are two pointy bits that make contact, which one has to be set on tdc. Sorry if this is obvious..

If anyone has a pic it would help a lot

if you look at the outer ring on the dizzy body you will see a small scribe line, you may have to clean the dizzy to see it, but its where the plastic flash sheid sits there is also a dot mark on this flash sheild at the same point.. (off the top of my head bearing in mind im sat at home with a glass of wine, the scribe is at around the 2-3 o`clock area, if the dizzy is correctly fitted) the rotor arm center will point to this scribe mark.

The phase sensor lobes do not relate to tdc at all.

cheers, so because i had fitted the wasted spark and removed the dizzy cap, i'll have to refit the rotor arm to align it. Dont think my distributer timing pulley lines up with its mark, someone must have fitted it wrong before

youdont have to fit the arm, but its the easiest way to explain it, there is a lug in the center shaft, that will also alighn with the scribe mark

right, when timing it up should the cam pulleys sit in line naturally. I have to hold both mine with a spanner the keep them in place is this normal?

There will be some willingness for the engine to try to turn due to the valve springs acting on the lobes, sometimes you do need to hold very gently, as it's right on the rock point of some valves/springs.

They aren't ever 100% perfect, just get as close as the belt pulley allows, when the block and or head has been skimmed and the distance between the cam pulleys and crank pulley shortened the crank and cams don't line up perfect either!!
