Default Engine Advice

I bought an engine for my project mk2 fiesta!
however iam still learning mechanics and was wondering how I would be able to find out if the engine is any good? I know you can turn them over is their anything else? Also I won't be using the engine for a couple of months, so how can I keep it from being damaged or seizing?

Thank You.

There was a thread on here the other week about storing the engine.

You need to keep moisture out so block the exhaust and the inlet.

Will try and find the thread and post the link.

As said about blocking the ports also I would squirt a little oil into the bores via the spark plugs and turn engine over slowly.

If it's only a few months I wouldn't bother doing anything, just don't store in a damp environment.
