Hello all just want some advice on my dump valve on my escort rs turbo s2. When the car is stood still and i rev it hard it sticks open does this mean it is shaged or needs a good clean if it needs a clean which is best cleaning stuff to get.

you can buy a spares kit to rebuild your valve if needs be mate... its just a matter of cost weather you buy a complete replacement instead. as for cleaning it im not sure... a good scrub with thinners maybe...?

undo the cap allen screws, take it appart, by pushing the piston out along with the spring, clean it with wd40 and a rag and then put a smear of clean grease on the quad ring then put it back together, its probably just dry and sticky. simple

would thinners not destroy the rubber/silicone quad seal?

Once they stick they are shagged. Bailey use very high quality grease to lubricated them, Once the grease drys up (usually from heat) the edges of the plastic piston score and its no good.
You will get it working again for a few weeks then it will start to stick again. I took mine to bailey and explained that it was happeneing and they replaced it free of charge.

the plastic should not be in contact with the aluminium at all, its the seals that are. If it was me i would make another piston on the CNC lathe at work though.

yes its broken if it sticks open
also you NEED a twin piston type, no other type will work on an ERST, if any other type on your car and it runs, its set up wrong and will probably melt under WOT... lol
best option... remove it!

Have you checked the pilot vac pipe to the dump valve? if this is old and weak it can collapse under high vacuum and this can cause the valve to retain vac and stick open.

Shouldn't do as the spring should hold the dv closed with the vacume present. Under engine load the vacume becomes pressure ensuring the pressure in the charge carrier pipe doesn't overcome the spring and vent. When the throttle closes the pilot vac pipe goes back to vacume and the pressure is greater in the charge carrier and the spring is overcome and the DV opens.

i know how it works, but the piston is def returned at tickover/overrun, and ive seen the pipes collapse before, if its old rubber/shitty old silicone. just a thought.
