But, most people have known for years they're rip-off merchants that will try and replace parts that are fine. Not sure why it's taken so long for other people to realise they are though...
I'd never take my car there, 1) because I can do almost everything I need to myself. And 2) because many years ago they tried to force my dad to pay to have the cat on out sierra changed, when we just needed a rear section fitting. Luckily my dad's a tight and very stubborn bastard, and refused, so we took it elsewhere and discovered it didn't even have a cat, or need one!

I was just looking at pads for a Mk1 Focus at work.... Retail price for a set or OE pads is £25.40 +vat, plus fitting at probably about £40 +vat (based on £60 per hour labour rate, book time is 40 mins to do the job = £40) ain't that far off the price of £80....
I am in no way trying to defend KF, just saying that I can see where that price comes from.

the funny thing is, companies like kwik fit wouldnt exist if the people in this country used thier fucking heads and wernt so fucking lazy.
sadly most people in this country are stupid and/or lazy
same with everyone whinging about polish/kosovan/pakistani/iraqi car washes. they wouldnt exist if people werent too lazy to wash thier cars and if they were genuinely too busy, savvy enough to know you can get a better value for money with a professional.

most people go to kwik fit because they think they are a trustworthy company and wont get ripped off.
nobody is denying they have to make money, but they dont do it ethically - i have seen 1st hand there tactics at trying to rip people off.
incidetally, i agree totally about the car washes though

people should be savvy about how they spend thier money and question a mechanic etc if it sounds a lot and/or seek an alternative opinion.
but people are too stupid/lazy so its thier own fault.
there are plenty of good garages out there if you are prepared to do your leg work. and usually you only need do it once as once you have found a good garage you usually just need to keep an eye on the prices.
you know this, i know this but seemingly there are millions of dumb fucks who dont or wont do it.

In fairness some people will not have a clue about what things costs, so they assume that going to Kiwk Fit they will get a honest and fair quote, rather than going to the local back street garage/ mechanic.
its funny how perceptions of back street mechanics/ garage are perceived by joe public, hence why Kiwk fit prosper

I think people take there cars to kwik fit because you get good warrantys with there parts and no matter what part of the country you drive to there is bound to be a kwikfit.
When i worked there they gave a life time guarantee with there brakes if you bought pads & discs so when ever your pads got low and the disc were within the manufactures spec then you got a set of pads fitted for free.

I remember going to them last year for a tyre, what a fucking song and dance that turned out to be
When i got there they just said alright give me your keys and come back in about 1 hour and we'll have it done, and he holds out his hand and looks at me and im thinking what the fuck, i want it done now while i wait, if its not possible to do it for another hour then bloody tell me that and also they said its not just fitting the tyre, they check all of them for tread and defects and do a "report" BEFORE fitting said tyre............. or something, what the fuck is that, ill tell YOU what tyre i want changing thanks very much
Need less to say i went to Hi-Q just up the road, much better service, drive the car on the ramp yourself(if you want) get out, they fit the tyre then drive it off the ramp, job done

Oh Dear, Kwik Fit caught with their fingers in the Till!!!
Fookin glad this company got a wake up call as its the biggest bag of shite in the country!!! They are an embarrasment to legit hardworking independant garage owners.
Oh I see they have a KTS diag equip, well I have one as a back up unit for my other diag equip and would love to see them us it correctly, other than a code reader!!!!

The pads are £13.99 to me as a punter - how much are they trade?
Thats a lot of fuckin labour for something which will take a 'trained' (note not skilled) mechanic with the right tools 45mins tops to do.
My hour and a half included going and buying the caliper rewind tool from the local spares shop.
£40 would have been resonable ( baring in mind they wanted the car all day ) and £50 for a drive in/out service.

i own a garage and cant buy them at that price,
tbh i's suggest that they are cheap crap,
wouldn't be fitting them to my car(prob squeal they're cunt in after 500
miles)
£80 is a bit much for a small garage, i usualy charge £40-50 to s&f pads,
but big place like kwik fit £80 isn't to bad, certainly isnt ridiculous(sp)
but i do agree that kf are dirty robbing cunts,
been in the trade 13 years, everybody in the trade knows of horror stories about them,
wouldn't let them check my car over never mind work on it

if you have to make the numbers you have to make the numbers
as a business it's very naughty to get your customers to think they are about to die if they drive their car away without spending a million £ on a brake pad, but if they didn't, they'd go out of business
as a punter though, being treated like a thick cunt because you don't know better means you huff out your chest and tell them to fuck off and make a noise to everyone
if people take the piss then they deserve all they get, but an honest mistake is debatable

Like any other selling business, they have targets to meet, its a shame they have to be unscrupulous about things but sales means they can stay in a job and feed the kids and the bonus means they can go on holiday.
I wouldnt use them myself but you would think a national company with branches everywhere that they could be trusted, or so the average punter would think.

sometimes it's because they are a big company that people trust what they tell them
i've been shocked at the pries i've overheard for brakes and stuff, and, at the same time, i've seen peole with brakes that are well and truly fucked beyond repair drive off because "it's not stopped stopping me till now" attitude because they think they are being taken for a ride
one lady went in with a vectra and the pads and discs were grinding back and front, they quoted her £650 for the lot so she said she'd just buy another car for the money and scrap that one

PassionFord Post Whore!!
last time i was in kwik fit they had a sign up about inflating your tyres with nitrogen i think, and wanted a quid a tyre to pump em up....
#62
I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
thats not bad for nitrogen,
i know a good few places that charge a LOT more than that,
i know it might sound a lot to blow up a tyre but its expensive for nitrogen,
however i doubt the average motorist would realy notice any differance with air to nitrogen

i can't complain about kwikfit in my experiance, i took my old passat there for a mot, it was 5 years old at the time, i hadn't checked it over and it passed with flying colours. all he could say was the rear beam has a little surface rust starting. I got the mot free with my insurance. Had a service done at the same time, it was cheaper than my vw dealer but i didn't get a car whilst they had mine.
used them to have new front suspension fitted to that car too, that was cheaper than vw.
I must be one of the only ones happy with the service ???
