Jesus, what sort of idiot would graft Mk4 Golf headlights into a project etc? Won't be long before some bright spark sticks them into a box like a Nova

Thats why Ive left the hateful looking things on my nova (its been on golf lights since before I owned it) I cant stand the look of them but im fucked if im going to rip off a set of modern headlights with a great beam pattern and really good brightness and replace them with the "candle in a jar" original nova items especially with me living in somerset and using the car on country lanes at night a lot!

More to headlight conversions than just what they look like, its also about how well they work too.

Why would you fit round lights in a square car, plenty of new square lights out there to use.

I've never seen an R5 with golf lights, there is one with square polo headlights tho, with built in indicators. That looks very good.

If you want better lighting fit some 100 or 160 watt bulbs lol.

Even new STD headlights will improve over old ones, and if you fit all new wiring to them they are even better.
The lights in my 5 are new STD units with new bulbs and wiring and are the brightest lights I've seen on a 5 lol

Just changing the bulbs and swapping for new old design units doesnt give you the same standard of lighting as changing the reflector design too, my nova headlights for example are better for lighting a country lane on 55W bulbs than a normal nova is on 100W bulbs.

If your car is for looking at, then pick headlights you like the look of, if you car is for driving down country lanes then pick headlights that work well
If its for a bit of both, then compromise accordingly I guess.

must admit that its hidious but i also have to admit rst headlights are poor at the best of times had 150w bulbs in mine and it melted the wiring and near enough killed the battery and was barely a noticable difference

id never do it but i would look in to other light units with similar shape to an escort as a guy did in resto room some clio headlights was used i belive slightly smaller but alot of better light and hid kits more readily available for those headlights think he had to mod the bonnet slightly tho

the best headlight conversion i seen on an escort were those iff a seat ibiza, it was that cream and blood splattered xr3i, it looked spot on it though as they were sort of square ish so suited the lines

but golf lights is a no, i hate the things on golfs lol
