reshelling a car, whats the deal?
i want to reshell my sierra, i have found a donor, what do i need to do?
i want to put my running gear and etc into the new shell, so will it work or will they want me to simply swap the engine from my car to the other?
i want to keep my reg so will this way work/
the new car has some "intresting2 history shall we say and there is no registered keeper or log book to go with it from what i understand because it's not been registered to anyone
or am i making it too complicated?

Dojj you do confuse me sometimes
How the hell can the donor car have some interesting history but its not been registered too anyone
If it has no v5 and has not been registered does the shell have numbers ? If not does it not mean it will be given a new reg or age related ?

ok if the shell isn't registered (it won't have a chasis number) if this i correct then it can be used to keep the original reg number
if its been registered (hence got a chassis number) changing the shell will put it on a q plate or which ever plate is on that shell
then you'll also need to change most things over from your car too as to obtain the original reg plate (keep yours) you need a certain number of points
for example you may need say 12 points
suspension maybe 3 of this
engine maybe 5 of this
interior maybe 3 of this etc etc
hope this helps

To retain YOUR reg it MUST be a brand new unused shell and trust me on this you will also need a receipt saying it was new and unused or IT WILL end up on a Q plate..... Been there done that got the Q plate to prove it... If it is a 2nd hand shell that has previously had a reg on it you MUST use that reg number or again its ringing and will end up on a Q plate.

everything is legitimate other than the fact that one car doesn't have a log book to go with it and seeing as some of you have done it before, i'm asking here to find out what would be the best way to keep my registration or transfer it onto the new shell without having to go through the palava of having to get it mot'd and shit first, and seeing as it needs a reshell to get an mot, it's sort of defeats the object
and no, i don't want to ring it either

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
simple question
is it a brand new shell with no chassis number stamped in?
or 2nd hand shell, previously been on road, registered or got number stamped in?
need to know this before any advice is any use realy,
you make it sound suspicious saying it has some interesting history

well dojj from what your saying you have 2 options
1.) go for a q plate
2.) keep reg of second car spend £25 for logbook
3.) anything other is ringing (unless as stated you can prove its a brand new shell)

Thats exactly what i would have said because if your in a bump and you get found out the car has had its numbers changed then your in BIG shite is your plate REALLY that important?

Does this mean I will have to keep that reg number then?
And, my shell has a bit of a rotten floor pan so my numbers are no longer stamped into the floor in any case as I've got the metal sitting in the garage somewhere just to proove that it's originally from my car so I would not be able to weld the numbers into the floor in any case.

ok, so it was a fiesta but it wasn't difficult with a ramp to get most of the btis off and an open space to put everything
but it seems that "buying" an mot is the only way forward then? i can see this getting expensive
