Default What are Ranger Thunder thingys like?

The 2500 TDCi manual double cab ones. Anyone have any experience?

short story is think I am gonna get lumbered with a 57 plate one. Are they a complete pile of poo? I drove it and seemed nice enough. Got 70k miles though. Towed trailer well.

any problems other than looking bit w4nky? engine seemed good and was comfy to be in....

i'd be happy to get lumbered with one of them! I have an 04 reg, which is the previous shape. It has the older, more agricultural td engine and it's great

you lot are so nosey!!!! when I say lumbered I mean having to buy it for Ł8500 which is well overpriced for its mileage and for uncool ugly car I dont want, BUT it will help my cousin out of a big cash flow problem as he has a final payment on the Fugly thing and its worth alot less... and I can use it as Tow the Westy I suppose. Seems to wander around the road a bit. Is that normal?

worried about mileage? do they fall apart at any point or are they tough as old boots?

engine seems lovely to be honest. Any problems with turbos going or any other mileage problem?

Rather than paying the final payment can you not just make an offer to the finance company to buy it rather than paying the full Ł8.5k? Or does it not work that way?

Is 8.5k overpriced? I've got nothing to refer to at the minute, but that would surprise me. Lower mileage examples of that age (probably talking about 40kish) are fetching about 11-12k I'm sure. Decent older shape 05 reg ones with 70k are around 6-7k if they're not battered!

no it wasn't!

in hindsight I should have just said. Is Ł8500 too much for a Ford thunder in grey with 70k miles! and what goes wrong with them?

seriously.... thought that yesterday with your Stu post....

then the unnecessary (but funny) dig at the mods poll....

nah. Ł7k is right price for a 70k new shape thunder mate.... well my brief search on autotrader found a similar one with the big back bit as well....

and this only has a lockable cover at back... that leaks! and it has dent in back

Wooooooah nothing changed this end

You said "lumbered" hence i called it a loaded post You cant post anything here without ppl asking Q's as you well know

The stu post was just a small thing. As far as i knew it was Petrucci's site but hey whatever.

The mods poll post was pure banter after messing with Mark on the "pissed off another member thread"

If anyone is a bit touchy i reckon it's you as you're being lumbered buying cars you dont need

On a lighter note. I got my watch in the end and it rocks

All I will say is be careful in the rain and ice when there is no load on the rear.

Had one of the Wildtrack ones and was very nice and good for arse out fun being rear wheel drive, however with no load over the rear tyres it soon catches you out and is very springy................ended up putting it in a ditch after hitting ice!

Forgot to mention it was handy for transporting a wardrobe from Reading to Essex without dismantling..............20 mph on the M25 was not fun though!!!

From my quick browse of the auto trader, the cheapest newer shape xlt I found was just under 7.2k (plus vat) but it wasn't a thunder. There's an 06 new shape thunder with 70k for 8k (plus vat). Obviously don't know what condition it's in and how bad the dent is etc, but I don't think it's that OTT price-wise

My uncle has one - he's a farmer. His is the 2.5TD, uses it for pulling mini diggers/cattle/sheep/machinery etc.... every day of the week.

Its the crew cab one, full leather, air con etc... He loves it, proper workhorse that he regularly has off-road in fields etc but still comfy enough to do some road miles in. I think it is very noisy though.

Could do alot worse, imo.

yeah, i think thats not a bad price tbh.

we have a few that we look after in work, they can be a bit lively in the wet, and the 3.0 is very lively wet or dry! mpg don't expect much, 35-40 ish but nice to drive, if a little scary at higher speeds.

very relaible. no real issues to speak of.

Think it is well overpriced!

Brother in law bought a one owner (utility company) 56 plate with 47K for Ł5600 last month!

Gloss Black Thunder, rear liner, hinged cover and Bury car kit, & FSH.

They're far more stable fully laden. 4wd or not, having no real ballast over the rear wheels is going to have a detrimental effect!

porkie ALL of the rear boxes leak mate even the ski box you are refering too, when i first worked at ford my manager had one as a company car ( 5 quid a week commercial tax thing) and his laptop was ruined due to some knob putting it to one side in the back so it would be safe,,,,, and it was where the leak was pmsl,,,,, i was not very popular with him for that

oh they are fucking strong though as i wrote off a scorpio in one and i hardly felt it contact, dented the bumper on the thunder,,,,, took one 2 doors, rear quarter and ripped the rear bumper off the scorpio and all i felt was the truck wobble for a second

the one your looking at also has angle sensors for when your off road...... or " im parked on a curb again" sensors is what i used em for pmsl

ps: clutches are not cheap. box weighs more than benni and beefyand there 2 fatter cousins and overall they are just mazda's
