think before you start spreading rumours!
keep this in mind the next time you are about to repeat a rumour or spread gossip
in ancient greece (399-469 bc) socrates was widely known for his wisdom.
one day an aquaintance ran up to him and said, socrates,do you know what i just heard about diogenes??
wait a moment, socrates replied, before you tell me id like you to pass a little test, its called the triple filter test!
triple filter asked the man??
thats right, socrates continued, before you talk to me about diogenes lets take a moment to filter what you are going to say.the first filter is the truth filter.have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?
no,the man said, actually i just heard about it a minute ago.
all right, said socrates,so you dont really know if its true or not,now lets try the second filter, the filter of goodness.is what you are about to tell me about diogenes something good?
no,he replied,on the contrary..!
so,socrates continued, you want to tell me something about diogenes that may be bad, even though you are not certain its true!
the man shrugged,a little embarassed, socrates continued, you may still pass the the test though, because there is a third filter, the filter of usefulness.is what you are about to tell me about diogenes useful to me?
no,not really replied the man.
well, concludes socrates,if what you want to tell me is neither true nor good nor even useful, why tell anyone at all?
the man was bewildered and ashamed.
this is an example of why socrates was a great philosopher and held in such high esteem.
maybe folk should think before spreading gossip or making assumptions that may not be true, but as it was diogenes was shagging socrates wife!!

He may have had wisdom, but this was also a man that believed trepanning and all other barabaric and unecessary surgical methods was a way of dispelling evil spirits from the body........"evil spirits" being behaviours of people with mental health issues and disabilities
