Mk5 rs2000
a mate has been looking for a mk5 rs2000 recently, so put a post up in wanted section, he then had a message off a guy saying he had a good condition mk5 with a 2.3 conversion making 175bhp est, but didnt say a price, just mentioned he also had a rebuilt mint mk5 but would want 10k for that one?? (dont know why he mentioned that as it wasnt the car for sale??)
just wondering what price these are going for in good condition, i wouldnt expect to pay anything more than 3-4k for a minty mint one, low mileage etc, as far as i can see they dont seem to be in that much demand, and i wouldnt ever consider them to be ford rs's finest hour in the workshop, just seem like a very average daily drive
just wondering what ppl's thoughts are on the prices these days

i had a tidy 1,m reg smiley front, some mods.very clean interior and i paid Ł1400 for it and sold it for Ł1500.had it on ebay and here, virtually no interest but its 1 of the best cars i have ever had.quick on a back road, back end is very loose, good brakes, steering.i loved mine and only sold it as i needed an estae, and i dont keep cars long.my pal bought a mint 1 a few years ago for 4k,prices vary, check for rusty roof pillars, floors, chasis legs as thats the hard bits to repair.
had a shot in a couple and been impressed, they have a lovely soundtrack with a filter and stainless, would love a well clean mk5a but gettin hard to come by.
They love to rot though so check them very carefully, especially rear chassis legs, floor pans and a panels.

yeah it was a 5a that he's looking for, the guy has come back and said he wants 4k without the 2.3 engine and he'd give him a 2l lump in it ready to be fitted? he wants 5k with engine in it now, personally i think he's pissed, 5k is good condition series 1 territory, which is a far more desirable rs IMO, or if a cheaper to run option i'd go for rs1600 which you'd get a very good example.
by the sound of it they have the same build quality as a series one aswell
cheers for the buying advice, im sure the car is sound but just looks well overpriced.

yeah its a standard rs2000, i dont think there is an rs2000 that exists thats worth 10k in any condition, exactly what has been said, escort cosworth money albeit a rough 1.
again i dont know why he even mentioned that he'd got a mint 1 worth 10k, think he was maybe just trying to show off or something? its usually the sellers that put up 'no wheelkickers or dreamers' never thought you'd have to put that up on a wanted post lol

Not in high demand but one of my favourite fords, quick, cheap and fun. In the hands of the right person quite nice aswell!!!
I had a van conversion, embarresed a few of the bigger cars and looked the nuts with a cosworth front end!!

If you need some info on the RS2000 head over to www.rs2000-16v.com then you can ask or even find a decent RS2K
5k for an new-age RS2k...
I had a slightly modified MK5b a few years back, it was a brilliant car to own. Got given stick most of the time, never failed to start, sounded nice and went well too.
Cheers,
Grant

dont doubt they can be a fun car, but can think of hundreds of better cars for 3k rather than spunking 5k on a rs2000.
so the general idea is that under 4k for a really decent example is about right then, prob closer to 3k?

yeah its the mk5a i think which has the bonnet bulge, its in red (dont know if u'd consider that desirable)
3.5k max and it'd have to be immaculate aswell, 10k and i'd want a cosworth engine in it and uprated everything which kind of says dont buy a rs2000 to start with.

i love my mk 5 took a lot of work though due to them being rot boxes, its had everything replaced barring the roof lol, full engine rebuild no expense spared on my car and all done at home only other person to work on it was the lad that came to fit my alarm as for 10k wow mine would be sold in a shot lol but as said they dont fetch big money and probably never will...

lovely example, can only imagine how much work that took!!!
The car itself is probably worth 10k to you as you know exactly how much time /effort and money you had to plough into it to get it like that, but as everyone knows your unlikely to ever see the money thrown into a car back again unfortunately, otherwise we'd have 20k corsa wanktanks up for sale on pistonheads every day.

exactly! but then i didnt build this to turn a profit i bought it blind for cheap never really looked it over welll enough, plan was something for me and my dad to mess about with for a couple of months but as time went by and we got dug into the car it was fooked so we stripped it and built it from the ground up, its as clean underneath as on top. I know ill never see back what i put in but like i say it was never about the money
I had a mk5 on a J plate, bought it when it was about 12 months old. Cracking cars. I'm after a MK6 now though, as I want the heated front screen (unless MK5 come with 'em?)
That black one is lovely, well done mate.

yeah the mk5 has a heated front mate, it reall is a craking car, handles great on konis sounds lovely with the magnex, decat and cone filter only got 165 bhp but goes canny for what it is.
Thanks mate, I can't remember my old one having it (mind, it was 15 or so years ago I suppose).
They rot for fun but have a nice interior - not fast at all but I quite like how they look.
Ł2000 tops for a really nice one and from Ł400 for a fucked one.
The last one I sold was apparently not too bad in the rot stakes and I got Ł700 for it and the spare wheel was floating in water.

They are only a fraction behind the S1, except the 2K has a higher top speed and more options as standard.
But yep, they do love the rust! and the electrics are bad too.
