Scumrun 2011
Hey all ive been invited to join a mate in next years Scumrun and im just wondering what cars would be good for it?
Basically its 3000mile drive in a car that costs no more than £500 round europe somewhere and we have to raise a min of £500 for charity.
Would love an old ford but id actually like to make it across to France at least...... Im thinking 5 series BMW or maybe merc. Theres 3 of us going so far so a cheap porsche is out the question also.
Any suggestions???
Also anyone else going?

I've just paid up for it and I'm taking one mate and a '94 Escort Solar Cab. Really looking forward to it. One of my friends did it for a couple of years in a stretch Granada.
If I had my sensible hat on, I'd suggest an Audi A4 but if you go for a bargain, remember the price threshold - they are using Parkers guide as a rulebook so if you do find a deal, make sure you get a receipt!
Think I'm right in saying registration cuts off in November so get in quick if you havent already.

Look for a cheap BMW, theres some bargains to be had out there if you get messaging eBay sellers....my 95 525TDS Tourer was up for £750 buy it now, offered him £550 to go and collect it that day and managed to knock another £50 off....goes ok for a 140bhp tank, its done 185+k miles so far and still sounds sweet as a nut!
Remappable to 170 odd bhp too

<Mods, if this is in the wrong place, please move to wherever it should live>
Although I'm not a regular poster on this site, some of you may know me from a couple of other ford sites. If you're following the blog we have running, you may know I have just done a clay, prime, polish, wax and mist job on the scumrunner and it is now very very shiny indeedy
I was so impressed with what a bit of Dodo Juice can do, that I emailed them. I explained the scumrun, and that they rock and fawned a little over their products, and asked if they may consider teaming up with us for a spot of advertising. Well, Dom @ Dodo is a lovely chap. DodoJuice are donating the following car care package to us:
1 x Born to Be Mild Car shampoo
1 x Basics Clay
1 x Basics Clay Lube
1 x Lime Prime
1 x Blue Roo Applicator
1 x SN Fingermitt Applicator
1 x PH Pro Panel Wax pot
1 x Fantastic Fur.
I considered taking this all for myself but they are sending me a seperate batch of goodies which means... The above is up for grabs.
The car care package listed above, will all go to ONE sponsor of the car. Also, we have 2 cases of Voltz Energy drink (12 bottles per case), which again we will put into the raffle as an additional 2 prizes.
Every £2 donation made between 1 March and APRIL 14th on the www.justgiving.com/floppythrottle webpage will earn 1 raffle ticket. On April 15th, we will get an impartial to draw the winner and I will get it all sent out to YOU(?). If you donate more than £2, then additional tickets will be allocated to you for every additional £2 donated.
Please get donating for your chance to win and remember to put PF or passionford or similar so I know how to contact you if I need to send you stuff
Alternatively, if you have any products / services that you wish to offer then please message me or if you wish to advertise on the car.
Remember that all donations go direct to Dreams come True, raising money for terminally ill British children.
Cheers
Chris.

sound like the perfect car for the job is one thats been driven though Halfords and the owner has put everything out of the Ripspeed catalogue on it.
Maybe accessorise the driver with a shell suit and burberry cap, preferably the passenger should be a lady of about 21 years of age with a 'croydon facelift' hair do and ear-rings that the rottweiller could jump through

I did 5k in 7 days in a 899cc fiat cinquecento. There was two of us in the car and we stayed over night in the car too.
The car had 106k when we started and apart from a failed alternator (still completed the trip with it broke) it never let us down!
Another four 899cc cinquecentos also completed the same mileage too.
Gavin.

14 Days left before someone wins oodles of shiny car juice...
C'mon, every £2 gets you a chance to win a case of Voltz energy drink or the DodoJuice package. Better odds of winning than the Lottery... and if you win it, I'm sure someone will buy it from you if you don't want it.
Oh, and good causes are involved as well... so you're doing a good deed.

*bump*
Just to remind you that this package is well worth having (and the Voltz stuff is quite pleasant as well).
Every £2 donation gets an entry to the draw and as not many people have donated in the last month, the odds of getting something are pretty good right now.
April 14th at 11.59pm is the cut off with the draw for goodies being made shortly after - Thats only a few days left to get a ticket. One ticket per £2 donated at www.justgiving.com/floppythrottle
You can obviously still donate after that point but not be eligible for the raffle.
Cheers

A couple of years ago there was a great Escort cabriolet on Ebay for sale that had been used in one of these charity runs. They had covered the whole car in tile grout (i think that's what it was anyway) and then whilst it was still wet and soft they textured it to look like tree bark and then painted it brown so when it was finished it looked like proper bark.
IIRC they bought the car, did the charity run in it and then sold it and made a bit of a profit.
