Default FAO Painters re - best etch primer and how to apply it

I am going to be priming my fiesta shell which is 90% bare metal after all the cage and fab work,

Now I've been told to etch prime it as that will eat into the metal and take hold nicely,

I have seen some people put it on fairly heavy and some just a light coating which seems to be the most common method,

Can any experienced painters shed any light as I know nothing about painting but will try and do the priming on this myself with guidance,

Also as I don't have a compressor and don't want to shell out for one as I have nowhere for it, if the etch primer is just a light coating where's the best place to buy it in aerosol cans?

And lastly after rubbing/grinding the panel back to shiny bare metal and removing the light surface rust what should I wipe the metal over with? Thinners?

Thanks

Marc

acid eicth you need to use a light coat but make sure its evenand enough on for when flatted back you dont go through to metal again

also aerosol i wouldnt bother, you need to use the proper stuff, can you not hire a compressor? as it wont take line to paint it

and use panel wipe before applying paint

Was gonna go for a high build primer on top of the etch so the etch wouldn't be getting flatter as such

What's the minimum compressor il get away with to do the job

have you checked with whoever's painting it what the difference in price would be for them to do all the prep too? could well be pretty close to, if not less than, the hire of a compressor, regulator, decent spray gun, and the primer, I would have thought...
