As standard Cossies are shit slow!!!
As stated above, you need to go in one with a bit more power!
I bought my 4x4 saph when it was standard and going from a standardish Fiesta RST, I was expecting it to be miles quicker. Wrong!!! I nearly turned back to go and get my money back!!! Lol!

I thought everyone knew they were pants as standard. In years gone by when we had a car dealership I have been in quite a few from brand spanker standards to 500 ish modified ones.
Simple mods /greens and so on transform them immensely and turn them into totally different cars imo.
Please tell me you are taking the piss after that Focos build you are selling.I feel like a foolish twat now because I have had beer

The thing is for me,nothing gives you a kick up the arse like a 2wd Cosworth, especially a quick one.Yep they can be laggy as fook especially in the early days but when they come on boost its grin factor 10 for me and always has been from the first time out in a crystal blue e plate back in 88.I must point out I was 15yrs old @ that time but even now mine is only 310 but still gives me a smile (for an old boat)

i know that one, 8 years ago i spent 10k on a stg 1 escort cossie small turbo on maybe 17psi, i was gutted to fuck, but tuned there awesome, however the looks of the car and from others made up for it
you have to tune them well
go in a 300 bhp one and you will grin nicely

Did Someone Mention TUV

What did you expect from a standard 20+ year old car? For it to drive like a new tdci or something You have a lot to learn if you think the t3 turbo is laggy. I expect you are getting confused by lack of boost rather than lag. There will be no kick in the back and lurching forward at warp speed with the standard 9psi or whatever shit value it is lol

At the end of the day, it is a very old car now, and technology has moved on hugely now. Modern cars are getting so quick really.
So by today's standards, it perhaps isn't as amazing, but back then, it was very impressive compared to a lot of things.
It does make me laugh though, I think people on here are so blinded by all the big numbers floating about, that perhaps some perspective is lost.
A car that does 0-60 in 6.something seconds and 150mph is not "slow" at all, not even close! A 1.4 Escort that does 0-60 in nearly 14 seconds and 105mph is slow, or one of those Nissan people carriers that does it in over 20 seconds, THAT'S SLOW!!!!

Too many "lame" turbocharged cars on the market these days, so people are more used to that sort of thing.
As others have said though, the Cosworth is still hugely respected and sought-after because of its potential, not what it's got out of the box.
Try one with 500bhp+ or even just a stage 3.

It probably want running its potential standard output and needs a good service and setup checkover if its such low miles and never used.
Anthing thats slower than what you have had before will feel a let down even when in reality there still quick
My bro bought a scooby turbo 2000, 220 brake os something, i drove it and was let down big time but thats because i have previously owned a stage 3 saph with all the right bits, scooby is still a quick car at the end of the day just doesnt give you the raw feel that bigger bhp/torque does
too many number chasers rather than nice and reliable old school headturners now a days

They are certainly not slow, 0-60 in 6 seconds and 150MPH is still fast even by todays standards you would need a modern sports saloon to stick with it, I think you are comparing the drive ability to that of a modern car, the lag is classic of any 80's turbo charged car and standard boost is only 10PSI.
Don't forget the power they have as standard is in a detuned state.
Same applies to RSTS, car's are becoming increasingly more powerful as time moves ahead but for there day the power was very respectable and even these are quite nippy as standard today.

Mine isnt the fastest car in the world n never will be but its quick enough for me. If i ever see you at one of my meets i will take you out in mine. Ive got c dyno graph from years ago and it was 305bhp. Ive been in a 400 bhp saff 4x4 and that was very very quick.

FIRST ADVICE....IGNORE EVERYTHING YOU'VE JUST EXPERIENCED!!!
Dingle, I told you to meet up with me at the next show i.e. Ford Fair to have a spin in mine. Next show, I'll let you drive mine o.k.? Just expect the unexpected and you'll be very happy and surprised
I love the Focus RS, but its a Fiat Panda compared to a FoCos

How can you love an engine you've never experienced? Lol
Be interested to see how much of it's original power your mates car is making, wouldn't mind sticking a tenner on it being a lot less than 200bhp if nothing's ever been touched.
I went in my 1st cossie (2wd saph) when I was 18 (15 years ago) my best mate was driving and it was a customers car he was working on! It felt and sounded spine tingling back then to me, still remember the smell of the leather and the motor revving hard. It made a lasting impression on me and I vowed to own a cosworth one day.
You do seem to get good and bad ones, I had a STD 2wd that was shite slow. I stage 1'd it and it was still pretty poor to be honest but I'd imagine it wasn't in the greatest health! I had a stage 1 4wd a year or so after and it was quite nippy, it just seemed to beg to do 150mph (on the clocks). My mate bought a really fast one and totally pissed on my bonfire though lol.
I'd still love a 3 door at some time but not sure I want to spoil my memory of my old cossies.
