Talking vag 1.8t tuning

i am currently building a seat leon track car heres the link

https://passionford.com/forum/restor...with-pics.html

now im after some more power and as there are alot of knowledgeable people on here i thought i woiuld ask peoples opinions.

i have allready fitted coilovers/anti roll bars/wheels+tyres/and seats and harnesses.

the car is totally standard engine wise and i have about 4-5k to spend to get more power. i can do all the mechanical work myself.

What sort of power are you are you looking for and are you wanting to keep the original management?

front mount intercooler
lsd
bigger injectors
remap
turbo off an audi tt if you want less than 300bhp

if you want more then big turbo, gt2871 should be nice for 350bhp, if you want more then go bigger

filter/exhaust/remap at REVOTEKNIK. You'll be pushing 270bhp at that. Wanting more then move on to one of the tuning packages at Awesome GTi. Get a decent clutch.

Awesome GTi and the like have various low compression big turbo packages for around 4-5k that will push you to 350bhp +. The cupra already runs similar clobber to TT-225, so you would be best looking to the aftermarket for tuning options rather than other VAG models.

not sure what i want really i remember you telling me the standard internals are crap
but other people say they take over 300bhp

im after something that is reliable and i can add more to as time goes on and more funds allow.

the engines done 124k so may be to tired for really big power ?

but i have to get the parts from somewhere and i know you have lots of experience with them.

the gt2871 kit is over 4k alone then i would need a front mount/ exhaust/filter and fuel system as well.
plus i dont know wether to trust the standard internals.

The Cupra R does but this is a Cupra so is K03s equipped and not K04 (Turbo that is).

The difference between then is around 60 more Bhp with a remap...

Fit rods as a minimum, they WILL fail! I'd be interested in taking on your project but I'm away until the end of the month.

For track use an LSD will be way more useful than more power just yet

Standard internals will take 300bhp but above this look at having the bottom end strengthened.

I'd go k03s hybrid injectors sports cat (if staying road legal) if not de-cat and free flow exh.
CAI front mount and re-map. Be knocking on the door of 300bhp with that lot. But I'd also look at dumping the dual mass flywheel and go for the G60 flywheel with uprated VR6 clutch.

I've had a rod poke through a block at 260hp on a very low mileage engine so do you think spending £350 on rods is worthwhile?

id go ihi rather then gt28 imo having had both conversions the ihi is far better. my ihi'd ibiza was running aprox 360hp on a totally standard engine and it got its arse kicked everytime it was used.

Never heard of ihi ?

360 bhp on standard internals is mental.
I would be scared to use it

Different companies, I have IHI but will end up going Garrett GT3071. If you can decide what you really want then its easy to spec a turbo but then you eventually want more

if your concerned about the mileage then a rebuild with stronger parts plus lower comp seems the only sensible way to go then power mods will be just bolt on.
the LSD and uprated clutch is a must have too. what they like for oil surge?
spend the cash making it as strong as possible then wind up the boost

My friend has a S3 and he's doing a bit of tuning to that. So for he has rebuilt the engine as a 2.1 using a TDI Mk4 Golf crank, ported small port head, steel rods, JE Pistons, Total seal rings, one piece valves, 370cc inj, hybrid turbo from CR Turbos with RS6 exhaust wheel and billet inlet, steel single mass flywheel, 3in down pipe so should about 320bhp.

The valves are also a weak part of the engine, the fuel pumps can also fail when pushed hard

My mate has a Jabba IHI LCR BAM engine (stock internals) - but after 12k miles the turbo failed and had to get another fitted £900 plus.

But either way its a fast car with at least a proper 320hp

IHI supply the Turbos used in almost all/all the STi versions of the Impreza road cars mate. The IHI VF34 is from a 2002 UK STi, its actually what I've got fitted to my 2000 UK Turbo and it (IMO) is a fantastic turbo, makes 338bhp on my car using c1.5bar peak boost.

Whats up with it? ...or you pulled it apart to tinker with it further?

pulled it apart cause the exhaust was blowing at the back of the engine so stripped it all down and found the manitold was cracked. I then bought a few bits for it and had a proper cage welded in, so the list of jobs is

put manifold and turbo back on
put seats and harnesses in
put pro alloy tank and fuel system in
put perspex windows in
and a few other little tidy up jobs

I need to get me finger out but i've managed 300 days offshore the past year so havent really had the time tbh lol
