my dog attacked another dog that was off the lead
i have a staffy 8 months old i was walking him a few days ago on the lead it is a 6metre extenderble one and a jack russel came out of no where off the lead straight up to my dog showing his teeth and snapping at him before i knew it my dog had got hold of it and latched on to his back making quiet a mess i seperated them as the jack russel owners came round the corner shouting at me saying my dog was viscous and now they have posted a vet bill through my letter box for £223 surely they are in the wrong not me as it was off the lead what should i do?
the jack russel is fine as ive seen it as they live accross the road

Tricky one this. Being blunt, obviously both dog sound nasty, but it sounds like a knock for knock situation to me. He should have his dog on a lead if its aggressive. You couldnt have done anything different if yours was on a lead. Does your dog do the same to others when its off the lead? Or do you always have to keep it on the lead? What would you do if it was the other way round?
Jack russells are awful dogs for this though ive got to say. Nasty viscious little shits!

as a staffy owner myself and previous jack russell owner for 17 years i would say the owner of the jr is to blame as his dog should have been on the lead, as s1rst has said there is nothing more you could have done as your dog was on the lead, jack russells can be fiesty little shits and are usually intimidated by bigger dogs thats where alot of there agrression comes from, tell the jr owner that you are not paying the vet bill as it was his dog that went for yours.

i would also inform the police as to what happened and tell them the jr owner has posted a vet bill through your door then if a problem arrises over it the police are aware of it and the staffy dont get the blame

If a dog came running up to me bearing it's teeth at me and trying to snap at me I would have no issue with kicking fuck out of it to protect myself or my dog.
The mere fact your dog is a staffy is the problem here, the other owner has obviously got some kind of false impression about the breed, if your dog was a poodle there would be a different perception of the incident.
Remind them, your dog was on the lead and under control at the time, the other dog came as the aggressor and as such say you'll see him in court to dispute the fact you will NOT pay the vet bill.

Tell them politely to fuck off, your dog was on the lead, there's wasn't.those jack russels are highly strung little dogs anyway, but be prepared for a visit from the dog warden etc as they hate staffs as their too dull to realise that they're not pitbulls!!!
I had a similar thing a few weeks back when a guy tried to show how tough his dalmation was by letting it try and scare my staff, needless to say he soon realised his mistake and found my dog attached to his dogs leg.I was in the wrong as mine was off the lead, she had literally just got out the car.his dog was ok a and he was fine about it which he should have been really but you do need to watch them as their not scared of anything really.

i have had staffies for years and people do seem to have the wrong impression about them ive never had a problem with them before now but in all fairness if the jr was on the lead nothing would have happened it could quiet easily been avoided if he had been a responsible dog owner i will inform the police to what has happened tommorrow but i hope when i say my dogs a staffy they dont get the wrong idea as many people see them as a dangerous dog which they are not ive had 3 and all off them have been as soft as shit my children have even grew up with them and they were as soft as anything with them

So true, just took mine up the park now,on her lead of courselves.walked in and one woman was absolutley horrified, thought it was going to tear her grandchilds head off, another bloke trying to gather his kids before she mauled them to death!!
lluckily there was another bird there with three kids who all came over and played with
her,she just had her usual big grin on her face(the dog) and the kids loved her.it turned out the bird had a staff cross herself so knew how good they were.

as others said, it was his dog that wasnt under control ie: on a lead when your dog was.
Tell him polightly that he go forth and multlply as theres absolutely nothing he can do, even if he tried civil action against you im fairly sure he'd lose.
just so you know, i am no solicitor and my views are my own and have no legal bearing.

Tell him to go fuck himself, prick. I get fucked off with assholes letting their dogs straight out of their car at the park/woods with no leads on. I have to shout "get your dogs under control, mine's on a lead, your problem if he finishes what your's has started". My Barney is as good as gold and I want to keep him that way. It only takes one nasty situation to ruin a dogs temperament, and as Barney is a 6 and a half stone English Bull Terrier he will always get the blame Rant over.

That is one of his sluts Emma sat next to him. She loves the cock.

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Does your staffy have a collar or a harness? Those that wear harnesses bring their chest higher and gives other dogs the impression they are squaring up for a fight.

I fucking hate it when people let there dogs off the lead, i own a husky and i lovehim to bits but i know that i dont have 100% complete controll over him so he NEVER comes off the lead in public. there had been a few occations where a dog that has been off the lead has gone for my dog and the owner has had no contoll and i would have no problem booting the fucker the face if it came down to it. KEEP YOUR DOGS ON THE LEAD.
at the end ofthe day its not your faul so send the bill back to them

love the bullies on the thread, my family breed them and my dad would have no other breed until the recent rescue staffy they have taken on,
i think the op has done nothing wrong, his dog was on the lead, the other dog came up not on a lead and clearly not under anyones control, and got its arse kicked, simples.
