corsa ELECTRIC POWER STEERING COLUMN
#6
Me mate fitted one to a Citroen 2CV8, a rover V8 powered 2cv on a stretched MG BGT chassis.
He used a corsa b motor, you can run direct to power for 100% assistance all the time or use a p/s ecu that came with them so it varies according to speed, or the other way is to get a potentiometer from ebay so you can set assistance how you want/set amount.
Having space would be the biggest issue, but also look at rover lecky ps often a lot cheaper and more compact as well.

We've fitted a non adjustable Corsa column my other halfs mk1 Golf, cant remember if its a b or a c though, also have the rotary switch to go in too.
We're yet to try it though cos its work in progress at the mo.
Meant to be a very good conversion though, we've spliced the corsa column to the original golf column at the top (tig welded) so we can keep the original steering wheel, ignition switch, switchgear etc, also had to splice the corsa and golf lower ujs together (tigged).
Column you'll need...
Variable switch...

There are many other ones very similar that work just as well, but cost less, some as little as £15-£20 complete, corsa ones are starting to creep in price.
Another option for cossies etc is to use the electric p/s pump as found on pug/saxo that has internal reservoir, as this is flow sensitive, but runs at constant rate if wired easy.

seen a few pepole using the saxo type conversion. am i right in assuming you dont need to use the column like you would if using the corsa set up. My mate has the corsa set up on his mk1 escort, seems a very popular way of doing things

I put all the Corsa C stuff onto a non power steering Corsa B and used the Corsa C ECU fpr the steering. Mind it was about 6 years ago so I can't remember much about i

It's this one

I can't vouch how well it works yet, but after reading up on them for a while, this one came recommended. Used a lot in kit cars/old rally cars etc.

I use Corsa B setup in my Nova
Been in for few years & never had an issue.
I use the controller from Harry Hockly motorsport. Quite pricey but i can vouch that its never caused me any troubles.

I retrofitted corsa b one to my corsa b, which is actually far more hassle than it sounds as the mounts are different the motor hits the fusebox and all the sort of problems you would expect putting it in a different type of car not the same one, lol
Electronically though which is the bit that I guess you are asking about as the mechanical stuff is pretty obvious, I used a standard corsa b ecu and a box off ebay to control it that cost me 35 quid IIRC, seems to work ok so far although only been on one trackday in it as I did it quite recently

Electric Power Steering Best $200 Mod ever
I recently installed electric power steering in a 1966 Mustang. I did not use a kit, I simply pulled a column style EPS from a newer GM vehicle and then spliced the unit into the original steering column.
The results far exceeded my expectations and the cost was less than $200. I designed a controller that automatically adjusts assist level based on vehicle speed, so that the steering feel is "just right" regardless of speed.
I documented (with pictures) how I went about this on a Vintage Mustang forum. If anyone is interested do a google search for "Best $200 mod ever (EPS)" or follow this link to page 7 where the details start:

Any questions just ask.
