Anyone know if Alfa Romeo 159's are any good?
Looking for something a bit newer and a bit different for an everyday car and came accross this http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...28az?logcode=p
Anyone know much about them and if there any good? currently have a mercedes c270cdi aventgarde so would be trading that in.

Values drop like a stone, I had an alfa gt diesel for 14 months, all in I lost 9 grand on it in that time.
And it was always going wrong, nothing major as such, just lots of niggles, you would fix one thing and then something else would go wrong. In saying that though, it did leave me stranded twice in that time!
Have a look at what it cost new, have a look at what it's worth now and then do the same comparison on a 156 and see what they are worth now, it's frightening the amount of depreciation they all have.
Great as a company car, but you would be mad to spend your own money on it. They are beautiful, but think of it this way, you are going out with a stunning looking model who gives you everything you need and makes you very happy, but every night you go to sleep, she stabs you in the feet with knitting needles, there is only so long you will put up with shite like that, regardless of how gorgeous she is and then you have to try and get rid of her!!
Good luck

Don't be put off, basically, un-reliable is what everyone says but it's not always the case, I think that reputation isn't justified these days (it can't of been too un-reliable having done 80k in 3 years). They are cracking cars, i'd suggest you try one out before deciding against it. As for the value dropping, it's true, they do depreciate quite badly (all cars in this sector of the market do) but it's at 7k now, not got too much left to drop, it's already depreciated alot.
I'd be surprised if you didn't find it a nicer car than your Merc

I worked for Alfa in the 90s and it was hard work. Even our staff cars weren't immune - pick up a new car with a KM speedo, or one with no starter motor fitted, oil light always on, central locking working - or not - to suit itself, windows that would go up and down, or wouldn't. Nothing really major, just all really annoying and time-consuming to fix.
Went back to Fiat in 2002 and took an Alfa 146 to avoid as much co car tax as possible - great wee car but the service back-up from the dealer network was awful.
Every true petrol head should have an Alfa (J Clarkson) but it would be much better if someone else is picking up the tab.

It's an Alfa, The car of your dreams and nightmares all in one go.
Fantastic cars, but can suffer from continual niggles and lead balloon values probably because of previous reputation.
