Default S2 4x4 help

Hi lads, I have now decided to take my car off the road in may and do a 4x4 conversion on it since seeing the rs on ebay

Can some one list all parts needed for me to provide ie suspension, floor pan, mounts (are they custom made?), drive shafts etc, and let me know of someone who will do this conversion for me and how much its going to cost.

I may possibly think about doing this conversion myself as my dad has put new floors in cars in the past and is a very good welder.

All depends on your coments!

Time is not an issue as I will buy a 1.1 fiesta to drive about in

Thanks

this sounds like a big convision, Im a fully quilified mechanic and wouldn't even
think of trying somthing like this. defo let a specilist do for you as I suspect it will be a knightmere job. Try Steve Scott at A1 he does this sort of stuff and will give you all the advice you will need to do this
If you do decide to take on this project yourself....

Take one 4x4 Sierra Cossie chassis and chop shell off, shorten floor pan and weld on mk3 Escort shell

Well I have the S2, could I use the xr4x4 running gear or is the cossie stuff alot different?? I would obviously use the cossie diffs and gearbox.

What about prices? I saw somewhere it was about £2500 to change it all over is this about right?

The thing is my dad could weld it all up, its just if there is any specialist parts which need making up? I wouldn't know where to get them from?

Thanks

i would of thought the mk5 rs2000 4x4 stuff would be better?
engine is right way round for starters.best idea is probably to find a stuffed one and buy the whole car.cos your gonna need all the back end plus gearbox, transfer box, propshaft etc

RS2k stuff isn't really that strong and wont mate up to the s2 engine that easily.
Also spare parts for the running gear is expensive.

The easiest way is to get a 4x4 cossie and put all the stuff onto the s2

I wouldn't even consider it if u cant weld and fabricate stuff and dont have a garage.

this will cost shit loads mate.

think he means if you used a 4X4 RS2000 as a doner car. engine will be transverse like the RST.

have a look at this thread in restoration

he aint shy at a big job like that

If u want to cossie it.

go and buy a rear ended 4x4 saphire cossie.

Makes sure it aisn't to badly fucked because youre gonna need all the suspension pick ups.

You're gonna need a fuel tank as well in board the car which will need to be firewalled.

All the front end will need changing for mounts etc, a bigger transmission tunnel for the box.
Shortened prop shaft.

Seriously this is a massive job.

Lloyd who posts on here is finishing his right now because he won the lottery.. I've known him a few years and he started it before I met him.

If you're relying on someone else even if it is your dad to do the work it will take even longer.

NOT FOR THE LIGHTHEARTED

Whats Lloyd's user name on here so I can PM him about how he's gone about it.

Like I said I got all the time in the world because it will be a fun project and very satisfying to carry out and look at the finished project.

Thanks
