Toyota Hi-Lux crew cab D4D, chipped. It's actually supplied by a sponsor for the rallies but it does such a great job (and is also great for chase) it's probably what we'd get anyway. Pricey mind.

I use a LPG converted grand Cherokee and a merc ml cdi with my twin axled trailer and they will pull anything you like.the merc has lively composure and cars never seem to snake with it but on the Cherokee you need to be a bit more cautious of where the weight is distributed although the power is something else on hills etc,no substitute for cc's etc!!tried towing a few times with a navara and it wasn't for me,too light on the arse end, good fun without the trailer!!car wise I found my passat tdi awesome for towing but I think I was pushing the legalities with it though!!!

My ST pulls well, I had a TD5 and would suffer on motorway inclines but with the ST you forget your towing.

vw transporter t4, lwb 2.5tdi, fiddled with to about 150 bhp. little bit bouncy on the back end, i'm going to fit some ex AA air bag assisters to the back that you just pump up when towing, then it should be spot on.

You may want to check your driving licence is legal also.

If you passed your test after 1st Jan 1997 then you licence is not CAT B+E.

You will need to take a trailer test if planning on towing that sort of weight.

Police and VOSA gave a 10 year grace on this but now are enforcing it, I know a few people who have got severe fines and points for towing.

Hence why I now have a transit flat bed

Also while your at it check your car insurance coveres you for towing and the weight.

we used to tow with a an old VX landcruiser as it has a high towing capacity of 3500kg but now we only tow my fiesta and capri so we got a smaller trailer and we use an 02 audi allroad and it pulls beautifully believe it can still do 2500kg so it isnt bad... i believe you have to be careful towing with a van as it has the abilty to take weight inside and i believe the law is not what you are towing but your capacity to carry greater than legal weights (i maybe wrong so feel free to correct me)... silly i know but thats why we dont use vans to tow.

Borrowed my dads E60 530D to tow to knockhill at the weekend- couldnt feel it most of the time and could still beat most things away from the lights!
If you want a car as opposed to a van or pickup i reckon you cant go wrong with any 5 series BMW, tourer and big diesel engine makes it all the better too!

my 08 L200 animal pulls my trailer, but as said check tow weights as ,mine is rated at 2700 braked , and my trailer weighs 700kg , we also use it to tow horsebox too, but only the bigger 4x4s can pull max 3500 like the RR Sport, BMW X5 , SHOGUNS etc

No limit is 3500.

My transit is a T350 as are most this size.

Its a bastard as you can get the twin wheel transit plated to something like 4250, all it is is paperwork no mods to vehicle.

But My licence would not cover it.
