Default Megasquirt (microsquirt) Problems

Anyone got any ideas?

Ive wired in everything, Im getting correct readings from the TPS & MAP sensors

The troble is, when you turn the engine over on the starter motor the megatune is showing 1500-2500rmp

The spark plugs are firing very fast and so are the injectors.

The CPS is new and the ECU is set to 36-1 as its a ford zetec flywheel patten.

Any help would be greatly apprechated

Which flywheel and CPS holder are you using as iirc 2.0 and 1.8 are different.

Not an expert on mega stuff myself but ...

Those cranking speeds are about twice as high as they should be even with a good starter motor !!

I suspect your crank settings are incorrect or the sensor could be wired up backwards which either would put the ignition timing waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out !

Cant be a real RPM figure, as per the phonecall try adjusting the crank sensor input sensitivy pot to see if its somehow picking up interference which it is interpreting as teeth.

Can't find as sensativaty adjuster anywhere, unless it's softwhere controlled?? I've tried changing the wires round from the CPS and it's still the same. If you unplug it, you get no rmp reading at all (as you would expect)

Bit baffled by this result??

Chip,
I didnt know that MS had a sensitivity pot and surprised they didnt use one of many very cheap interface chips available that do the job properly which utilises closed loop and low pass filters !

Maybe the microsquirt doesnt have an input sensitivity pot and its set on a fixed resistor instead.

This is the biggest problem with MS in general, too many slightly different configurations etc, its a nightmare when you just inherit one and dont know much about it.

If its seeing too many RPM though, then it can only really be one of two things:
its seeing teeth that arent there (due to some sort of interference perhaps)
its seeing the right number of teeth but is set to the wrong number of teeth per cycle

Other than that, I would say there is a bigger problem, like a faulty ecu or whatever.

Find out if you can run a scope of the MS like you can on autronic, I can literally see every single tooth that my crank sensor reads to ensure its reading correctly if I run the autronic scope, I wouldnt be surprised if similar exists for the MS.

You need to check the sensor is gapped/seated properly !

Also, are you using screened cable for the wioring to this sensor ?

Yes the wire from the ecu is coax cable. The wires from the ford sensor are 2 normal wires covered in a vey thick sheilding.

Ive soildered one of the wires to the centre wire of the coax and the other wire to the outer (sort of netted wire) they are both shrink wrapped then the pair are sricked wrapped thegther. so there well screened
