Default Anyone driven a Merc SL500?

If so what they like? I think Phil has an SL55 doesnt he, imagine a different kettle of fish though. Looking at possibly outing my 350Z to get one, on about a 03 / 53 reg. Do these suffer the rust problems that this era C classes have?

This is the shape in question....

No, they don't suffer from rust like the older ones, in my experience.

The 350 engine doesn't feel a lot different on the road to the 500 imo. They're big, smooth, comfortable, basically everything you hope they'll be, they are!

CLKs are a fairly good alternative, you may even find you get more for plate your money and the possibility of fitting 2 midgets in the back rather than an envelope in the SL? Probably not an important consideration for you though, going by your current and past crop of cars!

Ah cool, rust was my main concern, have heard the boots can leak due to dodgy rubbers and shocks are prone to going, but thats it?!

I was going to buy a CLK55 oddly enough before getting the 350Z but didnt feel right for some reason so went for the Z. Size and practicality isnt an issue!! 2 seater = no chauffeuring the boys on a saturday night!!

The CLKs of the same age don't feel as well built to me, they ARE well built it's just the quality of materials doesn't seem to match the S class cars. It's probably in my head but I'd rather have an S Coupe to a CLK, and S class to a C or E and the SL over anything else.

The older R107 shape SLs rust like fuck but they, to me are the [affordable ie under £20k] SL most likely to get you a blow job!

But as you don't want to have to give the boys a lift, I suppose blow jobs won't be happening anyway?

Ive driven the 320 and 500, as Paddy says, both fantastic cruisers and really pleasant to drive, just not sports cars obviously so dont expect to throw it around like you can your 350z.

they do what they do extreamly well.

cruise at 100+ every mile in comfort and style.

Lee - would love a 55 but couldnt really justify having a 25k motor sitting on the drive doing nothing most of the time! Would also mean visiting Mr Bank Manager for a loan which I dont want to do! Only have around £17/£18k if I get what I want for the Z.

Ryan - have heard they are lovely to drive, only ever been in a SL350 but a few years back. Not interested in track driving, havent done anything for years!

IMA - lowering is definite, just no 2pac plate !!!!

SQuiz - gotta be a 500 mate, the 350 will be awful slow!! I'll buzz you tomorrow about getting my Eibachs this week as i've got to go to Ikea at some point.
