Default DTC Error Code P0131 on Ka

Hi. I've just done a DTC check on my wife's 2005 Ka and got a P0131 Code which is O2 Sensor Low Volts. Can anyone tell me what this means (Sensor gone)? Plus maybe a part number and where it fits??
BTW, I've deleted the code so the warning light goes off. Is this ok? Thanks !! Franko.

Leave it and see if the light comes back again. Quite often it'll have a little hiccup which will store a code in the ecu bringing the light on, but will not do it again. If it does then change the lambda sensor (its the sensor in the exhaust)

Nice one Rich. Suspected that. Is it ok to just remove the old and fit new, or do I need to disconnect battery and such? Also, It seems a bit difficult to disconnect the connector.

Haha thanks! Yes just swap old for new and reset light with scanner if it comes back again. Plug should come apart easy enough? Depending on the size of the plug, to remove sensor, undo plug, run the wiring through a ring spanner down to the sensor. If you can't get the plug through the spanner then you will need a lambda sensor socket.

Thumbs up

Good advice. I will get replacement next week. I have a socket I can grind down to fit at work. Will keep you posted. Thanks a lot mate. Franko.

Make sure you know what lambda sensor it is,sensor 1 is on top by the exhaust manifold,2 on the downpipe.believe it's a 22mm spanner/socket you'll need,I tried a sparkplug socket on the top one and no joy but squirt a load of wd on it first and way to go.

P0131 is sensor 1, so that will be the pre cat sensor in the manifold

Thanks for your help lads. My son has a Ford Ka, same spec and model year. He said I can try his Lambda sensor on the faulty car to prove which one it is and whether a new sensor will fix it. Seems like a good plan to me (?)
Oh, and the warning light has returned...

one thing i will say is that if the hego (lambda,o2) sensor is faulty the engine management normally needs an update at the same time reference a technical bulletin ford brought out a while ago

Top man,you can use a lambda off an older Ka as well if you're desperate, the lug on the plug is on the other side but I just cut the lug as it's practically welded in anyway!!!car flew mot after that!!

Thanks B19JUB for your info.
Looks like a costly trip to Ford to get shafted.
I think I will try the Lambda sensor swap over first though and take a chance.
