Privately or dealer?
If private, you're basically fscked, sold as seen.
If dealer, you have 3 months warranty for any repairs - But you can get money back - I did after 7 days whenw e got a car and found that the gearbox was dodgy - got full money back.

hi it was a garage that sold it , so does every garage have to give 3 months ???? do you have to state anything when you want to take it back law wise or just say

20K+ Super Poster.
Basic consumer law, ANY major fault within SIX MONTHS from date of sale is covered, simple as that, only exception is where the car price was substantially cheaper than retail and sold as faulty, ie with faults declared.
Sale of goods act simple as that, the law states the fault is considered to have been there at time of sale, where it's within 6 months, contact trading std's if necessary, or park the car outside garage with "do think carefully before buying here" and put the facts down, 100% legal to do, makes people sweat a bit, I did this for a £7 toy outside argos once, it worked got me £7 back!!
