No, the piston ones are ok if you have to fit one. Its all down to personal taste. Personally I would not bother.

I have one on mine does not seem to effect performance. I love the sound off it but a lot off people on here hate them n say they are for chavs. Shouldent affect fuel consumption also alot off people say there car ran ruff with one on but tryed mine with/without and its the same.

my rst and cossie lags slightly less with one fitted than without not enough to bother with tho allthough you will benifit having one as the turbo shaft doesnt stall between gearchanges with one fitted so is easier on the shaft

most peoples rst are on t3, i run 25 psi spike on my 55trim t3 and dont need a dump valve, it would not break a t3 shaft, there just isnt enough force from a small turbo like that

I ran a baily dump valve on mine until it got 18 psi and chattered so now I don't run one, had no issues with performance or fuel economy

Had one on my RST. Seemed to run ok until I removed it. The difference is amazing, the car would jolt forward when you let off the throttle and I honestly think the car had more lag with one fitted.

chatter
but would you not say it extends turbo life?

tbh as for sounds i'm proper torn, dump valve's sound sweet imo BUT....

chatter sounds mean and scares people

In a nutshell

If you have a dump valve I don't want to talk to you, if you don't I do

I'm picking up a new 2nd car at the weekend and it has a dump valve fitted and I already have the parts to remove it before the journey home

They serve no purpose on these cars whatsoever. If you want to waste money on one for the noise then that's your own choice. From experience on the RST's I've worked with they do seem to run better without one.
