Also 'Audacity' is a good open-source bit of software

sounds daft but what I did was convert to wave, then open with microsoft sound recorder, trimed it up then converted it back to mp3. Only did this as I already had a converter installed.

Might be useful in the future for you as another option

Just use ITunes. There is an option Which allows you to reduce song length to male ringtones. Google it to find out how

So excuse my ignorance but can this be used to crop music that has been say copied to phone from CD to be used as a ring tone. I have a few tracks that i would like to use as a ring tone but they don't really "get going" until maybe 30-40 seconds into the track by which time you have either answered the phone or it has gone through to voicemail.

I have Audacity but it only seems to save in Audacity file format which a phone cant read, and if i try to select export as mp3 it comes up with some bollocks about downloading a file and browsing for it,too much trouble that was.

I used wavepad to trim, its mega easy but cant seem to save as an mp3 on that either? so im saving as wav file instead which still works on phones

Google wavepad as above, i figured out how to use it myself within about 30seconds but as i also said it doesnt seem to save as mp3 but thats not such a big deal if your only using it for a sms alert or ring tone
