they have a short service interval and the engines wear quicker than the normal jobbies. also fuel economy not to good. and if ur not to competant at doing the work, to get it done ( if its on the engine) it gona cost an arm and a leg if u can find someone that will do the work. this is only what i have been told, but not alot of places work with rotary engines

They the bollocks, engine wear is no worse than a tuned cossie, people say 60k but ones thats looked after proper last 80k+ and dont really wear out any faster when tuned (as long as tuned properly).

Cheapest performance engine to get rebuilt by far, a couple of grand from somwhere good.

Fuel economy isnt too good, but faster you go better it is, taking along at 140mph should give you better economy than a steady 70!

Sound mental, can be made to go VERY mental, i love them longtime and was infact out test driving them when i bought the 3dr

one of my mates has got one, i love it! great drive, stunning looks ect. just please be very very carefull when buying one or you may ger burned like my mate did!

story goes like this......

looked at lots of rx7's then found this black one at what was ment to be one of the top rx7 dealers in the country, now we new that the rotortips are ment to wear out at around 60-70k and this car had done 60k trouble was the rest of the car was perfect and it was a really nice example, he asked them to do a compression test on the engine and they came back saying all was well and compression was good
he brought the car and took out extra full warenty for 2 years that coverd him for full engine damage ect ect, he figured if it went tits up then he was coverd

anyway, 4 months and about 1500 miles after he brought the car it started playing up, took it back to them and they told him compression was very low in one chamber and non existant in the other (dont recon they even bloody cheacked it before)
said they would get it all sorted and claim on the warrenty, pulled the engine apart and one of the rotors had a bloody great big crack though it

warrenty should do there job you say!

NOPE! they came and had a look and got back to us saying that the cracked rotor was caused by wear and tear and they didnt cover that!

anyway to cut a very very long story short, the company had the car for 6 months warrenty company were being pricks and he had to pay £2200 of his own money to get the car fixed

now the company were fucking useless after the engine failier even when the parts finally turned up they sat in the workshop for weeks before thay even started the bloody rebuild. they stood on a headlight cover which they had left on the floor and snaped that in half fucking nobs

and when we finally got the car back after the 6 months we went round the engine to cheack everything and half the nuts and bolts where either loose or compleatly missing

some companys really should be burned to the ground!

anyway, rant over just make sure you double cheack the condition of the rotor tips

One of the best looking cars you can get . With all that room, it is crying out for a Skyline engine or twin turbo all alloy V8 .

Ive seen Rover V8s in them, but IMO you gotta be a goon for that, esp as theres ISNT much room in the enginebay at all really.

Plenty for a rotory, but the engines are about half a normal engines size.

If want an engine swap, put another Rotory in it, triple rotor 20B or if ya feeling mental a quad rotor 26B like the LeMans cars, n/a and 700+ bhp of the maddest sound you ever heard

I'd buy one

Yeah the engines are phonominal, one of the best engineered around and quite low stress, have to potential to produce stupid power, run smooth as you like and can scream like a biach to 10k.

Do drink tones of fuel thou, and do suffer from high ware.

But I'd still get one

Steve you got any piccies of the quad rotor engine, wanna have a look at that

Mate of mine has one and he let me have a blast in it. I was quite impressed. A touch of understeer here and there but no worse than a Saph Cos. His had a roll cage in it, so it was very tight and I'm only about 5' 7"! His had standard wheels/suspension so I guess with uprated shocks, etc. it would be an awesome car. I wouldn't let the rebuild stories put you off, a friend of mine has owned 2 Saph Cossies in 3 months and both required rebuilds. Some people are just unlucky.

There are vids around of quad rotor cars, i got some on my HD, sound mental.

But so do tripple rotor ones, esp n/a they sound like a REALLY loud WW2 fighter, i got a vid of a n/a 20B doing about 200mph on an oval circuit.

Then again so do big power 13Bs.

Fact is all rotories do if you give em really big ports
