Punishments need to be structured and stuck to.

Both parents need to be completely with each other. My daughter is 4 today and ahead of every one else in the class (but we all think that) and is other than being a little spoilt she is an angel.

From a very young age she has been sat down and talked to not just screamed at.

I have never smacked her and never needed too. if i raise my voice she stops and listens simple as really.

I believe Thats from her having respect for my thoughts of her and wanting to always be mummy and daddys good little girl.

I dont have the answers for your predicament but i believe it will definitely stem from something else or the way that she is being disciplined.

Wthout knowing you and your missus its very hard to have any even half an answer for you.

there is no guide book on being a parent we all do it our own ways.

 

The charity I work at always advises consistancy with these kinds of problems. both consistancy between the parents and consistancy of the punnishments for each type of misdeed.

tbh is sounds like you both need to spend more time with her doing general things for her, i take my little one bowling, to the park paying football and meeting friends ect and so does my ex too, we also do alot of stuff together aswelll and she dont seem to be a nightmare ( well not all the time) but one thing that she CANT fucking do,,,,,,,, she has the attention span of a fish,,,,, you send her to do something and she can get distracted by anything and at school she also seems to do as she wants and they dont seem to deal with her as shes not a bad child she just like me never stops talking and she always questions stuff and wants answers

try doing more activities with her just for no reason,,,, my dad takes her to arsenal games, my mum takes her shopping ( she actually likes that for some reason) and we generally have her come with us, she was with me when i was changing a gearbox and i was talking to her about car stuff even though she dont remember or have a clue what im talking about it seems to keep her mind busy

also she has NEVER drawn on a wall in our place BUT when we did ignore her she started to play with water in the bathroom on the sly,,,,, oh i also set her up a facebook account and she goes on there to read and talk to people which also teaches her ( make sure you tell your mates no text typing though)

 

Well I like alot learned right from wrong after a few whoppings from my dad, had a few in my day when I was younger foor doing stupid stuff, Its the onl way forward lol.

Rab hitting kids dones nothing to teach them, just makes the parents feel better and kids afraid to tell when they done wrong for fear of a hiding,,,,, you should be incontrol enough of your kids that you dont need to kick the fuck out of em to get them to listen,,,,,, the theory is it makes kids not learn how to get the point across,,,, unless they hit others

i was beaten with a belt but,,,, seriously im far from a " good child" just i got used to the beatings and after a certain age i wasnt bothered about it and prob got a little agressive myself that it stopped,,,,, and i got worse

I had around 3 beatings not with belts just a ruffing up, but that was enough it made me think twice about doing bad shit and it turn it worked for me I would say.

 

Worked for me when I was a kid - soon taught me right from wrong after a few rounds with the slipper and occasionally a belt buckle

As for the missus- She'll probably think it's some sort of BDSM fettish

Have not read all the replies so sorry if im repeating. I have a 3 year old boy and I am /was having very similar problems at home and playgroup. They told me to do a sticker reward chart and they are doing the same at playgroup. You reward them for the smallest of things saying please or playing nicely etc... and when they have got so many stickers, which you decide, you then reward them. We do this by just giving a small bag of sweets or going to the park. We have only been doing it 2 weeks and things seem to be looking good.
Just a suggestion, it could work for you too.

In all seriousness though, fair play to the OP for trying his best to correct his child's behaviour. Having worked for 5 years in Tesco during the weekends whilst I was at uni, I'm beginning to think parents like him who actually want to correct thier children's bad behaviour, are in the minority. The number of kids who ran about destroying half the shop whilst their parents turned a blind eye was shocking

 

I haven't read all the replies, but believe me, no matter how hard things seem now, in 8-10 years time, you'll be WISHING you could have those early years back. However hard the early years are, its NOTHING compared to what you have in store.

She is a proper lazy little fucker. Gets in from school at 3.45, launches her shoes into the middle of the kitchen or right infront of the door so I fuck over them when I get in, launches her bag onto her bed, then sits on the now dented sofa infront of the TV until I tell her to get off her arse and do something.

When there's a lad on the scene she turns into Jeckyl and Hyde. The moods re-appear and she becomes REALLY REALLY black and awful to live with.

Very true what you say though. Was chatting to my parents about this sort of thing recently. Both of them never got the belt/cane because the fear of being punished was so great.

Don't want to open a can of worms about whether or not smacking a child should be acceptable or not, but I was smacked as a child and personally its done me no harm.

 

One of them left home now,lives with her nan and grandad (the 21 year old) after an argument with her about her board, She didnt like the fact that i was asking for a rise to £50 a MONTH from £25 when she was earning about £900 bring home wages.

So she sent me a text to tell me she was leaving home afterwards,fine up to her, she was leaching off the hous hold any way.

She and her boyfried used to eat almost constantly,leave her tv on whilst using her lap top whilst listerning to her music, with the lights on in her bedroom vertually all the time she wasnt at work and then she moaned about a poxy £25 a month increase
