Exclamation Alan shearer?

Quickie, do you think theres a part of shearer that regrets not going to man united back in the day when ferguson wanted him, he got the 15million move to his boyhood heroes newcastle, and won nothing!! amazing prolific scorer!

He could have cleaned up at a team like man u and think he could of bagged soo soo many goals there. dont think he would admit it obviously. but there must be some regret looking at his trophy cabinet. he did win the league though I suppose

Absolutely not. he is like a scaled down version of god in newcastle. you could ask the same of le tissier, why did he never leave southampton, when he was one of the most gifted midfeilders of his generation. football gentlemen, is not all about winning trophies, and every player doesnt want to play for man united

man united would not be the team they are today if he played for us thats why we had yorke and cole plus solkjaer so we didnt really need him

Thats a matter of opinion. if you want to be respected for the amount of medals in your cabinet, i agree. but if you want to be respected as a local hero, fighting for your hometown club, giving 100% blood sweat and tears for the team you loved and supported as a kid, and being respected in your local community, he didnt make a mistake. every man and his dog knows he could have gone to united, and won medals, but obviously to him, the guarantee of winning medals, wasnt as important as trying to win trophies for his hometown club, making himself a folk hero in the process. i guarantee, winning one trophy with newcastle, would have meant more to him, than the boat loads he could have had at united.

Fiddy that means nothing in 10 years time once its all finished with. no one really cares if he stuck by newcastle except newcastle fans, but I do get where your coming from.

Its slightly like henrik larsson with celtic, he was a genius up in scotland then he could of went anywhere and did go to barca and man u late on in his career and was a success, he could of done it earlier, but showed loyalty too celtic and thats why he is regarded a legend in one half of glasgow. but not so sure I could do it if I was that good and had opportunitys to step up the ladder

You mean trying and failing.

Then deserting your club rather than trying to get them back into the premiership?

Deserting them, he went there on a very tempory basis, about 6 games iirc, when the club were all but relegated anyway. he stepped in when nobody else would touch them with a bargepole, and hoped for a miracle, that was never going to happen. he didnt take the job of trying to get them back into the premiership, because he had 6 games experiance as a manager, and he knew, him 'trying' wasnt the best for the club.

He chose not to go untied and win boat loads of trophies on the basis that he could try and help newcastle on the pitch. do you honestly think he wouldnt have took the job if he was as confident in his managerial skills, as he was his football skills ?

He gained more respect from newcastle fans for not taking the job, because his decision was yet again, as per usual, the best one for newcastle united. there isnt a newcastle fan on the planet who thinks he deserted them in there hour of need.

was it not an unexperienced assistant manager that got them back in the premiership then?

alan shearer wasn't up to that job? (at least he had 6 games, Hughton had 0)

Ask any newcastle fan if he is a legend, and they will disagree with you. like gascoigne, keegan, jackie milburn, alan shearer is a geordie legend. and an england one come to that, he was awesome for england, but even as capitain of his country, he retired early to concentrate on newcastle, yet another newcastle comes before anything decision. if all footballers were as loyal as alan shearer, the game would be a lot better off for it.

Shearer 30 goals in 61 appearances for england.

Peter crouch 38 appearances 21 goals for england. (with less playing time)

Is peter crouch an england legend?

Now go see how many of those goals are in freindlies, and compare crouches goal scoring record to shearers in competative games, and also see how many times crouch has captained england.

go and look at shearers trophy cabinet...

I wonder if shearers grandkids will be as proud as giggsys.

Unless they are newcastle supporters that is that thought they was to good to go down and are the best team in the country.

He did, Shearer said himself he was house hunting in Manchester. Trophies play a big as does money and what you mention, passion/love for the club.

Maybe he could be if he got that DESERVED chance when it matters for England. Some players are just better for country than club. Good record.

He is a legendary player, all time Premiership top goalscorer but I get what you're saying. Add a bag of trophies and United games into the mix and he'd of been more appreciated.

Where are yorke cole and solksjar now?none have a job commentating on sky/BBC which tells me that maybe their not as respected in the game as a.s and matt le tiss?Suppose yorke did shag Jordan, but is that a good thing!!I think shearer made Newcastle a good club that stayed comfortably in the top flight with him playing by attracting good players mainly due to him.as for management, hughtons been a number two for years yet shearer had no experience and IMHO shouldn't have taken the job,I don't think the club wanted him managing them in the championship rather than the other way round.Newcastle were awesome last season, beat us swans fair and square at their place although I'd still fancy hughton to be one of the first managers to get sacked unfortunatley,no loyalty these days.

Probably polishing their Premiership, FA cup and Champions league medals that they won in one season alone!!

(Solskjaers busy managing the Man United reserves, where he's won the league and cups).

Your logic is fuckin horrific. Never thought that some folk don't want to go into the media? Same as some players don't want to get into coaching etc.

Not meant as a criticsim my friend, cole yorke and solks were and still are total legends, just like shearer and le tiss.I used the wrong word with respected,I should maybe have said "recognized".
