Default Where to buy Night Vision Goggles??

Been asked by a mate where is best to buy some Night Vision goggles, he's asked for 1+ or 2+ gen what ever that means?

Also can you get them with a recording facility?

Maybe Warren can shed some light on this? Also can you buy ex forces ones?

most hunting shops will sell first and second gen night vision.

Ebay has some too.

Whats he using it for?? usage makes a massive difference on the quality you need.

if he wants decent quality then he will have to pay large money. really good stuff costs thousands.

You can get plenty of ex-russian stuff. Brit and US NV gear doesnt come up on the market so often.

He said he wants to pay around Ł500 for some.

Not to sure on the specifics for what he's going to be using them for.

Any links for whats good around that price?

Ł500 wont buy you any Gen2 yet alone Gen2+.

It'll get you Gen1 however. Not too sure about binocular designs, but you'll pick up a good Monocular for that sort of money. The biggest thing you need with both Gen1 and Gen2 is extra illumination, usually IR. IR flood lights (LED based usually) are good to light an area, but not for that much distance (depending on output of course! A Lamp with IR filter would be better).

IR Lasers are great out to 100m+ but are generally very poor at flood lighting, as many are collimated or with fine-focus lenses.

All depends on what you'll be using it for, but Gen 1 & 2 will both require extra illumination, making it a nogo if you don't want to be picked up using it. (Hence the military came up with Gen3 that is passive). Gen 2 being Ł1-1.5k+ and Gen3 being very hard to get and expensive if you can!

Gen 3 would probably be a bit overkill unless hes thinking of doing a 1 man killing rampage against the north korean army or similar

I noticed Put "terrorists" next time as its a equality neutral term

Or if your being really anal about being PC say something like "the target constituted a threat under rule BLAH subsection BLAH of the RoE in force and i felt imminant danger to myself and/or my colleagues, with no other options open to me, I therefore had no other option but to open fire and thereby saving lives"

or some other bullshit

I think they should apply the principle of "if you cant take a joke, you shouldnt have joined" to PF. Would solve most the petty arguements!!
