Interview tomorrow! *UPDATE Got the job!*

As some of you may know I was made redundant in September of last year, since then I've done a variety of things but nothing on a permanent basis.
I currently work on a casual basis for an event security company in Surrey and although the money is pretty good the shifts are just not regular enough and I haven't had my own car for 4 months as a result.
Anyway, after applying for a load of jobs in recent weeks I've got my first interview of 2010! The job is for a security firm at a shopping centre local to me, will be on call almost all the time but it's a guaranteed 120 hours minimum a month!
Anyway, wish me luck and has anybody else had any joy with getting a new job since being laid off recently?
Big-Dan.

its tough out there unless youve got something exceptional on your CV to stand out or your going for something more specialised. theres a good million or more out there on dole with a good CV so you need to stand out more.
Good that you got an interview in security!! been harder to get work in security lately due to a relaxation on the rules for tracing a criminal record for immigrants so the immigrants are flooding the job market to do the same job for less.
ive been looking for part time work since sept (student now) with no luck!! even got rejected by maccyD's
Im a bit in limbo land as im too old for normal student work as they have to pay me a higher minimum wage compared to an equivilent student and most grown up jobs round stoke dont like students!
Youve got to be mercenary though these days. Im not telling them im a student and been applying for full time work as well to cover summer and will just quit come september
cunts tricks maybe, but an employer will do the same these days without batting an eyelid so play them at their own game!!
Also i do NOT declare disability anymore. despite disability discrimination act and all that bollocks, its clear to me that the moment you declare something, you are garunteeing your CV will go in the bin as there is now an element of risk associated with employing you over someone else. Only companies i declare are government or big nationals who offer a guarunteed interview scheme for disabled applicants.
Learnt that the hard way last time i was unemployed. 8 months and not even an interview, stop declaring dis, then interviews every week from then on. some might say thats coincidence.

Cheers guys!
I've PM'd you a link to the event security firm I work for, you get emailed as an when they have work available you then decide if you want to do any of the shifts. Starting wage for SIA is Ł8 per hour although once you've done a few events you can negotiate the wage with them slightly.
They will have loads of work on over the summer for people like yourself who are available to work whenever.
One I recieved today:
Big-Dan.

Best of luck with it.
I lost my job at the end of april, had 2 interviews since, also got on to an old area manager of mine who said she will try and find something within the company for me so i must have left a good impression - fingers majorly crossed for that one.
Also just had 8 days work with a mate driving a tractor, nearly 90 hours worth at a decent rate so that will keep the funds up until i get something.
The key to finding work is being as pro-active as possible, dont sit on the net all day looking - go and speak to people!! Drop CV's into local businesses, make sure all your friends and family know you need work and get them to put word out. Thats helped me get a few days work for cash here and there, helps massively.

best of luck Dan.
I got made redundant 2 weeks before xmas but got a decent enough package from them as had been with them for 6 years - walked straight into another job the following week and its closer to home too![Top](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/smile011.gif)
Have still had loads of interviews this year (10 to 20 as want more money now
) and was supposed to have an interview last week but that got cancelled so reckon it will come through this week.
I have actually had to take my CV off monster now as I had effectively come down to a 4 day working week which i cannot afford to do.

good luck and hopefully the company will have the decency to let you know the outcome.
i had 2 interviews with karcher, was told it was between myself and one other person, the second interview was about 4 and half weeks ago now, and the cunts still havnt told me either way whats going on.
i think its pretty obvious now, but im fucked off as i had to take a day off work, and also paid out for the fuel to drive to banbury twice. i think i might send them an invoice as they cant be bothered to tell me.

Thanks for the messages!
All in all I think the interview today went very well, ultimately the decision isn't up to the guy who interviewed me but he does get to recommend his ideal candidates from those who we're selected in the first place. Based on the appearance of the staff they currently have I'd like to think I've got it in the bag but you never know do you till you get the call.
Will hopefully here in a week or 2 if I've got the job.
Big-Dan.

Your age probably doesn't help as the minimum wage is shit isn't it?
My mates brother puts in 40 hours at Harris Brush and gets less money than the part timers as he's only 16 and Ł3.57 per hour is considered a fair wage!
