Depends on individual brands, most dot 5 have a LOWER boiling point than dot 4(not all though) with around 270C being typical for dot 5 and 300C typical for dot 4.
DOT5 was NEVER intended for racing, it was actually needed for COLD climates where it has better low temp viscosity needed for cars with esp in cold climes in particular.
Much better off to use a fast road fluid such as tarox road race for example.

SRF is, it doesn't absorb water like normal brake fluid. The more water in the fluid the lower the boiling point.

didnt think you could mix certain types due to different seals?
think we run 5.1 in the 205. i think it was better than dot4 but not as good as dot5, but you couldnt mix dot 5 with 4
might be wrong though.

ok the DOT spesification is to do with NOT absorbing water, which boils under breaking as things get hot ... the steam in the system causes spongy / no breaking.
Breaking is converting kinetic energy into heat energy! so stopping a tonne plus of car from 150mph = lots of heat. castrol make somthing called SRF and it is supposed to be in a class of its own.

At £43 per Litre you'd want it to be

So when putting new fluid in does it matter if it mixes with old fluid in the lines or do you have completely drain it? and (how????)

If you get the Blue stuff which is very good, just bleed all 4 corners until it's blue coming out. 1 litre is enough.
Don't think it matters that if they are 4 or 5 dot. Not ment to mix normal fluid with silicone (uncommon i think) based ones though.
