Mk1 FRS, though most are more than £9K. ST maybe? I'd avoid VXR's at all costs, not just because they're vauxhallsbut because they are unreliable (so i've been told). Also they look bland.

VXR's arent unreliable, they are good cars, but I would avoid one anyway as they desperately need a diff but dont have one.

LMAO

So one person had a broken VXR corsa and you write off the entire VXR brand?

How the fuck can you justify saying go for an RS then?

Mk1 RS is likely to hold its value better than an ST I reckon

I think the mk1 RS Focus drives more like a hothatch than an ST. The ST drives like a fast Focus. The MK1 RS has more feel.

My 2p worth anyway

Seeing as you're in Liverpool wouldn't a tank be more suitable?

Mk1 Focus RS, Civic Type R, Seat Leon Cupra R. To be fair mate you have loads of options

VXR'S are a relatively new vauxhall brand chip, so the only RS you can compare them to is the Mk1 FRS, and new FRS.

If were talking older RS, you would have to compare them to GTE/GSI, and there not exactally renound for there reliabilty, porous heads, piss poor transfer boxes etc

Ive never heard of any GTE/GSI with a piss poor transfer box, and the porous head thing is blown all out of proportion, its not a big deal at all in reality.
The XE engine from the older hot vauxhalls is amazingly reliable in the main.

Hate to slate the VXR brand but it is speak as you find. Know owners of both Corsa and Astra guise who have suffered with clutch, turbo and sterring problems.

That said still rate them especially the Corsa...

I am a ford man all the way but if u want a fast and reliable hot hatch for the money u have to go for a Honda bullet proof engines, a good ek9 type r civic 1.6 180 bhp standard got a diff as standard recaros and handle like on rails very good road or track cars POWER OF DREAMS.

i agree, in all honesty, i love ashtray GTE valvers, had a lot of fun in them back in the day, the XE is a good engine, so is the LET. but, porous heads arnt uncommon, and cav and calibra turbo's left vauxhall 4WD, but they didnt stay that way for long. but imho, its swings and roundabouts comparing GTE/GSI to old RS, and VXR to new RS.

i honestly think astra VXRs are a terrible drive with poor handling. (I have driven 2)

problem is i have never driven a focus rs so i cant compare, have driven an ST and although it didnt feel as fast as the VXR it did feel more planted and i could throw it into the corners better.

Why does it have to be a hatch? Any specific reason?

I'll agree with you on that one! The ST is a quick car, but any plonker could get behind the wheel of it and make it go quickly. FRS would be much more of a driver's car. I only chose the ST as it makes a better daily driver for what I wanted it to do!

My choice would be an Alfa Romeo 147 GTA. I know they aren't technically the best car out there but as a package for a road car I think they have the lot. Great engine (3.2 v6 250bhp), lovely leather interiors, look amazing, not over the top or chavvy.

I love them.
