Right this is bugging the hell out of me...Got a 2001 MK3 Mondeo Ghia X deisel..yeah yeah I know devils fuel..but needs must..anyway when I stick fuel in like £20.it shows on the trip I have around 160miles of fuel...which is fine..but the part thats bugging me is I drive say 60miles and park up..
leave car come back get in start up, and it shows less than 50miles fuel and the light is on then after 5miles or less it shows 25miles then keeps dropping down..until it reads 0miles left..
I've taken the battery leads off a few times and then it shows then correct milage left ie 95miles or so..WTF's going on with the stupid thing, then after a while it starts doing the same thing, showing less and less milage and fuel left. Im thinking I have a problem with the clocks or the computer... as I've worked out Im getting around 40mpg..round the streets and a good 50mpg on a run..
so anyone got any idea's cause it's doing my nut clean in..

The mpg gauges aren't particularly accurate even when they work correctly. Do you keep resetting the average mpg function, as that can affect the rest of the data - the longer you leave it between resetting the more the info is 'averaged out' and there will be less fluctuation in the readings.

My Range Rover does this , i can stop the car with half a tank then get in it later i have just under half a tank, the wifes Saab does this and so my brothers merc so i think its just one of those things, i had a Escort 1300E years ago and that done the same.

this week I've stuck around £60 of deisel into the tank but have only done around 120miles if that..so just needing to know how much is actually in the tank..
never had any problems in my RS not once with fuel readings..wish i still had it...sadly written off..gutted

sounds like fuel sender problem. my mate had similar problems with his petrol mondeo and he replaced the sender which was about £40 iirc from ford.
and yes, despite a hole under the seat you will have to droop the tank.
