just wondering if you do it yourselfs or put your cosworths in the hands of the dealers for servicing?
i've owned a few and always did them myself cos i wouldnt trust most folk doing my car nevermind the dealers!
wonder if theres any RS500's etc out there with full ford history!

At the risk of being slaughtered I have to ask...
Why wouldnt you trust the dealer? I have worked in 3 main dealers and only 1 mechanic has ever fucked up with a car, I know you hear the horror storys but as they say there is 2 sides to most storys.

I work as an electrician and we wired a brand new massive ford dealership/ office block with all full new mechanics workshop. They were moved in while we were finishing off and the focus st had been brought out around that time, the way they treated the cars was awful, the apprentices raking them about the car park ect. I`d never let them near my cars.

It's not a case of using the ford dealers, some dealers won't do any work on cossies, and certain other cars.
Busseys in East Dereham were asked by myself to do the tappets on my mk4 1.8 d escort, a very easy job, just using basic tools and a simple bit of maths, they wouldn't do it due to age, but would on a 3 year newer mondeo with the same engine!!
I'm sure there are perfectly good dealers though, but they're so simple to work on might as well diy if you can and save the pennies.
I have seen on 2 occasions brand new cars being thrashed mercilessly, and reported both to the dealers the cars went to, don't know what if anything they did.
When mine went to ford for a mot a few years back I just set the rev limit to 2500, so they couldn't rag it ha ha!!

I see cars fairly often that have had services at main dealers (VW/BMW etc etc) that have came in with the same plugs, or air filter or some other part that sould have been checked/changed as part of the service, so the ONLY reason i'd have a main dealer service my car is if its brand new, and I want a service history but i'd go over the car afterwards to makesure it's been done properly. Otherwise no I'd do it myself for peace of mind not to mention how much cheaper it is.
On a Cossie or any other sporty older car, i'd definately do it myself as it's very easy to do, most apprentice Ford ned mechanics will be out road testing it sideways and no doubt write it off, is it worth the risk?

I worked in a Ford dealer for 5 years. While i worked there my dad took his escort cossie in for MOT. It had failed the emissions test so the mechanic said hed take it a run. My dad phoned me 5 mins later to ask why his car had just passed him on the bypass at about 120mph.
I spoke to the service manager about what had happened. When he spoke to the technician who had road tested the car he said he had 'lost' the failed emissions slip so he could pass the mot and if i wanted to make a complaint against him he would 'find' it again and we wouldnt get our mot!
In my 5 years there i saw 4 old style RS's there. My dads esc cos, andy gallacher brought in an esc cos, a guy brought in a mk5 rs2000 and my old RS turbo. In every one of these cases there was ONE guy there that had a clue how to repair/work on these cars. He was old enough to have PDI'd my RST! Hes moved on to another garage now so there is noone at my local ford dealer that would have a clue. The old diagnostic system was used by the old technician on my dads car, but now hes gone id imagine theres not one other technician that would have a clue how to work it.
So my answer to the question of taking an RS to the dealers would be: New RS's (Focus RS's), Yes. Old RS's, No, go to a specialist.

Nope, I like to know who is messing with my car and use the saqme mechanic for 15 years now, looks after my cars and it is only him that works on it.
Not to say dealer wont do a decent job but you never know who is working on it and what level of care is taken.
