Default What good crime/gangster books?

Going on holiday soon and always read a good crime/gangster book, anyone got any suggestions?

Done the obvious ones like Chopper, Wiseguy and a couple of Heny Hill books etc...

Any other suggestions?

Carlton Leach-Muscle, also another fan here of The Guvnor, epic read.

I've read a lot of Dave Courtneys books too, and although he may have a show off/plastic gangster image nowadays, his books are very entertaining.

paul ferris (sp) has wrote a few and they are good. Avoid anything written by kate kray cos it's full of bullshiters.

Iceman : Confessions of a Contract Killer.

500+ pages of the life of a contract killer, gripping stuff when it's all real.

Got some other books there will have a dig out of some of them.

Cocky was a good read, espcially as it's all true aswell.

If it's entertainment you want then Dave Courtney's books are certainly readable even though they are a little exagerated in my opinion but still very readable (i see you have read some Chopper books so you are no stranger to exagerations).

Rise of the Foot Soldier by Carlton Leach is also not bad. At the moment i am reading Brown Bread Fred by Freddie Foreman which is a good eye opener and clarifies a few myths from the past.

Yeah also read both of those and they are quite good "tell it how it is" books, not dressed up just for entertainment value.

Best true crime book by far is Mr Nice-Howard Marks. He was the original big time smuggler and it's one of them books you'll struggle to put down!

Out of the ones mentioned above I'd reccomend "Vendetta" by Paul Ferris and Reg Mckay, or "Essex boys" (fuck all like the film and MUCH better) by Bernard O'mahony(sp?). Looking for a good one to read very soon, i usually make a point of reading one when I'm sunning it by the pool in my annual pilgramage to spain.
I've also got a "Cosa Nostra" book, but i haven't read it all yet, so might make a start on that now that I've read this thread actually.

* Scourge of the swastika

* Knights of the bushido

pretty eye opening and interesting to read
