fiesta 1.8td mk5...more power
hi,
i know im not expecting much power increase but as i need something that is economical to run me to london n ipswich and back everyday, and with 1500 pound budget i went for this so, im thinking of a scrap yard intercooler, zetec s cat back and air filter, just for the fun of doing it really, and keeping it cheap and cheerful
but im stuck...when upping the fuel will the boost naturally up itself or how do i actually up the boost on the turbo
thanks

front intercooler, bleed valve for the boost (run it in line with the pipe on the actuator) for which you will also need to rig up a guage, and you have to up the fuelling on the fuel pump screws mechanically.
dont just up the boost or it will run uber-lean.
i used to run a mondeo 1.8TD with saab front intercooler, 20psi boost, fuelling wound up as far as it would go, large induction kit (the standard airboxes really restrict them, as do the gay K&N 57i cone filters) with a powerflow cat-back exhaust - it was pretty nippy and not that smokey!
if i got another one i would do all that, then get the flywheel heavily skimmed, decat and fit a bigger turbo with an adaptor plate.
check the thin black rubber pipework around the turbo (especially the long one that runs to the fuel pump) if it is all perished you will be losing a bit of power. on the mondeo there was a small shock absorber on the throttle mechanism (on the fuel pump) which gives it throttle hang. remove it and bin it if yours has one!

excellent thanks guys,
found this link http://www.boostvalve.com/ thats explains about inline valves but how do i fit a boost gauge? can i run a 'T' piece for the guage then run a bleed valve off the other side??
and what is safe boost pressure with keeping it economical obv im goin to lose some but just dont want to go OTT
thanks again guys

on mine i put a t-piece on the pipe going on the actuator for the bleed valve, and another t-piece on the thin boost pipe between the fuel pump and turbo for the boost guage.
i'm not 100% sure yours is the same as the mondeo 1.8TD endura-DE engine, maybe the fiesta has the direct injection engine and an ECU? if so you would need a tuning box for the fuelling.
